After much lurking here on Dakka I finally got round to joining. All the talent on the modeling & painting and the P&M Blogs forums inspired me to start building a scratch built Baneblade for my new imperial guard army.

This is actually my first scratch built, and I´m rely pleased whit how it turned out so far... if I might say so my self

That looks great! If you have plans for this in electronic form, I'd love to have them.

I'm looking forward to seeing this complete, keep it up!

I love it already! Can't wait to see the finished project. I'd also like to know how much money in supplies it took to build it compared to buying a GW one.

thanks for the comments. It´s nice to be appreciated

As for the plans... I do have them in electronic form if you want them. I used the plans that I found on a certain yahoo group... (am I allowed to write the name? I don´t want to piss off GW )
The only thing I have altered is that I made it about one inch longer (the tracks and track guard that is) I didn't want it to be to boxy

I might have some more pictures later today. But it´s rely nice weather in Sweden to day so I think I might go to the beach instead...

that´s a good question? I think around half of what the GW baneblade cost. So far I have spent around 30$ on foamcore, cardboard and plasticard and I don´t think I´m going to use it all, not in this project anyway...

Yes. I made a press mold of greenstuff... on close inspection you can see that they are not original GW parts but it´s close enough

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

How do you make those molds? Also how do you use them.

That thing looks sweet!
Did You use the templates from White Dwarf from WAAAAAYYYY back? Because those templates make the Baneblade HUGE!
About 1,5 times bigger than the GW's original.

Good job, can't wait to see it finished!!

1. lubricate the heavy bolter (or what ever...) whit some thing, or it will stick to the greenstuff... vaseline works fine

2 press down the heavy bolter in the greenstuff, about half way down, then you make some guide groves/holes (don't know what to call them in english) so it will fit together whit the top part of the mold.

3. Let it harden whit the heavy bolter in place... and you have half a heavy bolter mold

4. lubricate the mold and heavy bolter again

5. Cover the top part of the heavy bolter whit greenstuff, you have to press hard to get all the details in there...

6. Harden and remove the heavy bolter. Now you got a mold!

To use it just lubricate the mold parts, mix up some greenstuff and put it in one half of the mold. Press the top half down, hard! Let it harden and then pop it open... you will have to trim of some of the greenstuff

I had to try this a few times before I got it right, but it works relay well I think.
