Given that I want to change my caster from Sorscha, I've been looking for some other ideas I could use with other casters. Now this first idea isn't really related to my caster change, but it does let me get something a little fun into my list:

Man of War Kovnik Marshalling a Bezerker.

No matter who I start to think of as my caster, I like this combo. The Bezerker is cheap and while the Kovnik adds to the cost I also get another heavy hitter who stays back a bit with the rest of my army to help out when things get dirty.

Basically I get a really nice model in the Bezerker who can be pretty damn nasty, and with the Kovnik I offset a lot of his weaknesses such as blowing up. I see this as a combo that would work well with any warcaster, but especially one who can cast Bounldess Charge on the Bezerker. And because the Bezerker charges for free I can use the limited Marshalling abilities of the Kovnik to boost his first to hit attack, with Drive to get me an extra attack. Hopefully with the first attack hitting because of the boost I can maybe get the second hit because of the +1 in the Bezerkers rules and I could maybe get a combo off. This would work great vs. Warbeasts or heavy warjacks.

Now to help this combo out and give me some more offense in my list I'm thinking about Vlad as my new Caster. I love his feat and I see myself being able to change out a lot of things in my lists in the future to use him in different ways (ie. later I can run MoW Demo Corps and use Wind Wall to get them safely into the enemy). Also Signs and Portents really helps out the Bezerker+Kovnik combo for when the Bezerker makes it into combat. And because of how Vlad's feat is setup I don't need to have the Bezerker in his battlegroup in order to have the Feat or Signs and Portents work on him.

So given all this, here's what I've written up as my 500 point list using most of the existing models I have, necessitating the purchase of only Vlad, the Kovnik, and the Bezerker:

Vlad
-> Juggernaut

Man-o-War Kovnik
-> Bezerker

9 Iron Fang Pikement + UA

Widowmakers

Manhunter

Alternatively I could drop the Jugg out for my Destroyer and drop the IFP to just 7 Models + UA and run with that, but I want to try the more Melee list first, though i realize that the Destroyer being able to pull double duty is probably better.

I'm always torn on whether to marshal mr. decayed-cortex. (Berserker). On the one hand, you get a focus-free boost and extra attack, but on the other hand, you loose the chance for him to execute power attacks and/or blow-up (and the blow up hurts your opponent a lot).

Other trouble is that the Berserker will want to charge every turn, and the Kovnik will have to run just to keep up, over the next few turns.

A bit of a conundrum... considering I love the berserker model.

I don't think the loss of power attacks matters that much in this situation. The Kovnik can Slam, and the Berserker has Headbutt as a chain attack. It can't throw or lock things, anyway, so all you're missing out on is Trample.

The only time the Kovnik will really have trouble keeping up is on Vlad's feat turn. Every other turn, the Berserker and Kovnik both run the same distance (8"). Since the Kovnik doesn't anything else to do most of the time, why not run?

Overall, I think this list is pretty solid, but I think you'll find that you wish you had more ranged support. If you're still having trouble hitting with the Berserker, you can try bringing Greylords to drop the enemy's DEF, though I have no idea how you'll fit them in.

I've found that having ranged can be very nice combining the Destroyer with the Widowmakers. But it also makes me play very cagey and I'm having a hankering for "run in there and use the bloody axe!". It's part of what I've wanted to do with Sorcha and why I want to switch from her. I figure Vlad gives me the capability to run like mad and get stuck in.

In the future I think I will experiment with a lot of different things. I'm actually fairly interested in using Assault Kommandos to wipe out troops, they seem pretty good for that. I figure them, destroyer, field mortar, widowmakers, and then some CC support and I could be doing fairly well for shooting with Khador. But that's in the future.

Man one thing I love about playing WM is that my one army can do so many different things.

I purchased Vlad's model last night and proxied him in the two games I played last night.

First off, I need to find a way to sculpt greenstuff, he needs a giant "S" on his chest because this guy is friggin Superman.

I only had two games, one was a demo game I was showing a friend how to play (we're converting more people over.... ) and another great game vs. someone I hadn't met before who knew the game really well and played a Darius list that went back and forth and he won it - but it was still an awesome game and it's the perfect kind of loss - the one where I learn stuff and still had a ton of fun vs a nice guy.

Also turns out there's a shop about 3 miles from my house that just opened up that carries WM/Hordes and a bunch of guys go there.

Anyway I just used my normal Sorchsa list with Vlad subbed in and it was great. I love what Vlad lets you do, Signs and Portents helps boost everything and I'm in love with using his Feat correctly. Being able to charge my jacks out that far is fantabulous. Absolutely awesome.

Excited to hear that.

I picked up my Vlad and a minimum of stuff yesterday, so
that means he'll probably see the table in a couple months or so.

What I really like about Vlad, especially over Sorcha, is that he boosts all my jacks at once, and the rest of my army. And when things get hairy and you need him to help out, every time you cast Blood of Kings you literally should envision him tearing open his shirt Clark Kent style to see a giant "S" hidden beneath it.

He's also got nice spells that can turn models stationary and/or make Warjacks take double damage for anything that exceeds their ARM. I made an Ironclad go SPLAT with that and a Charging Jugg last night.
