With the new Daemon codex, there are now options to use chariots for our daemons.

I wanted to get a chariot for my Slaanesh herald. I'm using all old (last edition) daemonettes, but I'm going to use the new daemonettes as the heralds, as they're slightly bigger, and that sets them apart.

Step one, aquire parts
I will need:

2 Mounted Daemonettes (last edition version)
1 Dark Elf Chariot box
1 old-style Daemonette driver
1 new-style Daemonette Herald
A Banner or Icon
Some random decoration parts

Step Two
In step two I use my dremel tool to remove the daemonettes from their steeds, and to remove all the Dark Elf markings from the chariot parts.

I use an engraving bit first:

I don't recommend doing this without the flex-tube attachment either:

And, then go over the surfaces with either a file, or a wire-brush bit on the dremel (for places the file cannot reach):

Here are the results:

Step Three - Green Stuff

I then used some green stuff to fill in the gaps on the steeds, and to make them little saddle/yoke pads. I also made a slaanesh symbol for the front of the chariot.

Note the indentations on the saddlebags. I made sure that the yoke would fit over the steeds in position, and made their setting deliberately. This way, I can paint the steeds separately, and the parts will fit back together then painted.

Step Four - The Chariot

Next, I built the yoke and chariot body. Although, in order to get the crew in, I didn't glue it in place yet. As I'm going to use pins to keep the crew in place, I want to be able to remove the chariot walls to drill the holes for the crew positions.

Step Five - the crew
Next up, I added the crew. Fortunately, the dark elf chariot driver's arm and armour plates look like a perfect match for an old-style daemonette, letting me use the driver arm with minimal difficulty. The herald seems like a perfect chance to use the crazy new daemonette hair, as it will make the chariot look like it's going pretty fast I have to put the herald in at an angle so that her claws fit.

The crew are also going to be removed for painting separately.

Step Six - Details
Small details make all the difference in how a conversion looks. I added an icon (very tall, so as not to block the herald's sight), and some random chaosy bits that I had lying around, chains and tatters and spikes and stuff), as well as the wheel blades from the dark elf box.

Done

Actually, there is one more thing that I wanted to add, and that's a small length of fine chain underneath where the yokes sit on the steeds, so it looks like there's something that they're actually pulling. But, since I'm painting them separately, those have to be added later.

That looks REALLY great Redbeard, I can't wait to see it painted up and plowing through some of your opponents!

One thing I might recommend for the chain, is if it is small enough, thread some very small gauge floral wire through the links to strengthen it. I think this tip came from jamsessionein a while back.

It might be a little late.. but with where you placed the banner its looks totaly in the way of your Herald. Easest fixis to move it. What I would do is rebuild the Herald, cut her left leg off at the hip and cut through the knee and ankle, then rebuild it so she has her leg wrapped around the banner pole and reposition her left arm so its holdin the pole. In the end it looks like she is stripper hangin off the pole. 8-)

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
the band is playing somewhere and somewhere hearts are light, and somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout but there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

Just a note on the banner as everything else is great.

The chariot looks like it is standing still with the banner just hanging vertically.
My opinion on change for banner would be to turn it 90 degrees and flowing backwards (becoming a large pennant) and put the chaos icon on the new 'top' (currently one of the side arms). that would also allow you to shorten the banner pole so its not so long as it shouldn't be in the way of the daemonette.
You will get much more of a sense of motion than the current build.

I agree with Mr Gonads re the banner needing to flap backwards, looks great otherwise - although personally I'd shorten the drawbar (well, the thingy connecting the beasts and the chariot body, whatever it's called) so that the model won't overhang the base quite so much

Agreed with Gonads too, just the banner needs the tweak to get the SPEED feel going for real. In all otherwise, excellent chariot

I am more than a little jealous, I'm planning on doing a very similar project for my chariot-mounted herald, but narrowly lost out on grabbing some seekers from ebay :(

As an aside, I can't believe GW have stopped making the seeker models, it's really fouled up my plans for my daemon army! Does anyone else feel more than a little annoyed at this?

I might adjust the herald's right arm to be holding the banner (or pennant as Gonads put forth) so that she doesn't have to be at a wierd angle. She seems to just sort of "be there" as opposed to really interacting with the rest of the model, as opposed to the very nice driver who seems to be part and parcel of the whole. Alternately, adjusting one arm to be holding the side while the other gets ready to decapitate some poor bugger she is riding by would be cool too.

Great work though, I am really impressed. I want to make my own chariot for my 2% painted army now!

Looks great, but (and I'm sorry if you're sick of hearing about it) the banner really does look out of place. I like Gonads's and Wehrkind's ideas to improve it.
