I am triying to get myself out of the 3+ save universe, so i am considering investing in an imperial guard army...

... but in any case I want to make a "different" army... no cadians or dkok or ever elisyans...

I am thinking in a theme for the army.... the Spanish Civil War Assaul Guard units, los Guardias de Asalto... they were a police/army force formed by the republic to counter the quite rigth-handed old fashioned Civil Guard. They fougth hard for the republic and were disbanded with the republic defeat...

This image may give you an idea of what I am searching....

Mordians could do all rigth ... but they are all metal and do not have the necesary variety... so....

The closest to that uniform that I could find is the early great war BEF uniform... and minis... in 28mm some nice examples from North Star...

with the minis provided by this suplier I can get the count as

-lasscannons or autocanos ---> the 18 pounders
-heavy bolters ----> vickers guns
-mortars--> stokes mortars
-plasma or melta rifles ---> lewis guns!!!!

and I can ever get the Mark IV Tank and act it as a Lemman Russ...

so I am almost ready to waste close to 300 € (almost 480 US $), but first I need to know if their 28mm scale will fit in the w40k universe...

anyone can help me?

28 mm will look a little small in 40k, due to GW using 28mm 'Heroic' scale, which is a bit chunkier. I'd recommend getting one or two of them and comparing them to guard models before commiting to a whole load of them. I assume you're not planning on using them at any GW tournaments? They won't like that...

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

will they be forbidden?

they are warhammer historical great war minis (ally morrison I think) so after all they are gw intelectual property...

I think they may give a break using that argument... is like using a fantasy model in 40k...

i just play a tourment or two a year... but if I can not use them there is no sense in making such a big invesment.... i thougth it was a good idea to present a well themed and personalized army...

Well, most GW sponsored events require the use of GW minis. This includes FW, old armorcast, citidel, marauder, etc. I don't know who makes those models, but I doubt it'll be playable at a GW store or the like.

GW loves conversions, as long as it involves the use of their models. Local stores and clubs have their own rules.

One thing to consider: using cadian plastics with heads from another manufacturer. If you can find peaked hats in 28mm, throw them on a cadian body and it'll be closer to what you want.

I have just exchanged a couple of mails with Games Workshop spain tournments organicers, and they are cristal clear... they will not allow those model in their events... bad for them... they (as global GW goes) are losing a 300 € purchase... bad for me, I am losing the theme of my projected army.... I will try to sum up how much it will be to get the same number of minis using mordians, but I am almost sure this is an army I will never field.... it's a pity... i loved the idea, the SMLE, the vickers gun, the lewis gun...

Is being able to use this army at GW events THAT important for you? It would still be an extraordinarily cool army for use at home, local events, and non-GW events. I understand where GW is coming from but they can be such complete asses sometimes. This idea is too cool to just drop. (coming from the guy putting ACW heads on Cadians but not so I can go to GW events )

Yup, GW have a pretty hard line on this sort of thing. It's a shame, but they want to sell you lots of lovely box sets.

Edit: typo

Is playing in a GW store, or the GT a prerequisite for this army? Most games I play aren't in this category, so GW-contraband miniatures is no problem what-so ever. Clubs, and indy tournaments are pretty lenient on this sort of thing as long as what the model represents is clear.

The think is that working (as any other guy) on a limited budget I can only invest in a full army (100 minis plus guns plus tanks) if I could give them 100% use.... here in Spain the non-gw sponsored events are little tiny tourments (8 to 12 participants) where half the players use non painted marines or chaos marines armies... only in official GW tournments (the biggest is a annual convention called D.o.S. and last weekend they put together 130 gamers) you can find some variety and competition...

thanks for your support, but that much money cannot be spent in an army that I can only use at home....
