Came across this in the new rule book and though the space marine fans would dig it. Look cool and shooty! oh, and flammy, twin linked flammy.

Dude this thing has been around since at least '98. It's from the Blood Angels codex.

The baal predator exists for a very long time now, until today only the BAs can take it.
Maybe they just gave all the chapters access to it now, similar to the LR-crusader...

Not only that, it's the second sculpt for the Baal Predator.

I have 2 in my BA army. Very good tank if you use it properly. It'll tend to get very close to the enemy due to the main armament, which means you're subject to meltaguns and such. Best way to use them is as follows:

take a pair, a whirlie, a few attack bikes with HB, and a LS or two and use them all to put saturation fire in a very tight area, usually a flank. This minimizes return fire. Using them to spearhead an assault won't be successful. You really need to saturate an area with them in conjunction with other units.

I assume they'll be available to all SM armies now? If so, great fun.

That's from the rulebook, not the new smurf dex. Nothing to suggest anyone other than Blood Angels will get them.

AHA! but what you all didn't know is that in the 5th rulebook's index where all the stats of the models are listed, as well as all the game's weapon stats, the assault cannon looks like this:

Assault Cannon R 24", S 6, AP 4, Heavy 3

....so, in actuality, it's technically a new varient. Since only GW seems to be silly enough to put two template weapons on a tank.

The pic came from the new rule book that I have in my sweet little hands. What do you guys want to know. Please don't ask 100's of questions, cause I have a full ork army to build and paint. LOL, just keep them to a minimum since I don't want to rewrite everything in the book. Also, I don't know if GW would get pissed at me for sharing this stuff early. I don't want to step on any toes. I do have most of the book scanned in my computer, so any thing you guys want to see, I can probably PM it to you.

No NEW variant , look at dex BA (1998) page 16.
The Salamanders got such sponsons for their predator destructor in C: armageddon too.

That's what it was in 3rd edition. So it's back to useless now? I laugh at everyone who ordered the $15 Termi sprue to get their second assault cannon.

Pretty sure I faced 36" assault cannons in 3rd. I guess my opponent pulled the wool over my eyes (and asscans weren't often seen then).

I was referring to when I shoot the main gun. Ranges come down from 24" fairly quickly, esp. against a mobile opponent. Overall, the Baal is a compltely different beast from the destructor due to the main gun having 1/2 the range. The destructor is a vehicle I can usually park on a flank and fire away from relative safety. The baal operationally has to get much, much closer, necessitating the use of combined arms and maneuver across the range of the whole army to use it effectively. When it works, though, it works extremely well.

One thing I noticed when looking through the rulebook was that in the battle report, the predator was only 85 pts. 85 pt predators sound good to me.

This is wrong. It says that under the Daemon Hunters listing, but the regular space marine listing shows the assault cannon R 24", S6 AP4, Heavy 4, Rending. I figured a new rulebook would have been a great place to fix the DH mistake, but they continued with it. Take a look at your 5th Ed rulebook again, my friend.

Interesting the red used has changed yet again.

Since they dumped the blck shoulder pad trim to go all red with the last WD codex, and now the vehicle is a duller red than the models pictured. probably an excuse to show how easy the mechandrite red can be used to paint red.

Dump the flamers, add sponson assault cannons and I'll go out and buy 3.
