So, I popped into the Birmingham GW this wekend and they said that GW's are running a 'warm up' to Golden deamon painting comp. Bham are already taking entries and running several categorys. Anyone else heard about this and if so are you entering and what?

So far I've got my baneblade in the large cat, will be adding marines into the 40K squad, Vamp into whfb single, farseer into 40K single and maybe a grot vs scarecrow into duel. All are almost ready, with the grot still to make.

Not head of that, sounds like a good idea.

Sadly I shan't enter as all my stuff is locked up.

the june WD has all the details - its a national thing and there's only 4 categories:

Single figure
Squad/Regiment
Vehicle/Monster
Diorama (on base no bigger than a CD)

The problem is lots of GW stores don't seem to know this (how when its in WD I don't know!) and are either not taking entries or are using GD categories (needless to say the area managers will tell them to stop as each store will only be allowed to give 4 prizes)

The comment about staff not knowing when it's in WD - I know the main staff in GW Brum feel te same as me - WD's not worth the money anymore and they just skim through it and usually don't find much to catch their eye. After all they dont need to look at the pretty pics of the new models, they get to paint the things in 3D!!!!

Happens all the time. Somewhere in between when the issue is laid out and released, someone forgot to tell the Hobby Centers.

What are the prizes? Are they worth the effort?

looked through junes WD last night, it is there after the directory (great place for a start), prize is to have your name in history....so nothing :S

I'm just gonna put in some prepainted bits now, not really worth the effort of spending time to enter me thinks.

Just to let you know, my vamp didn't place, my Luna wolves won 3rd place in squad, and my baneblade took 2nd in large, meaning I won a half price gamesday ticket! Anyone else win anything?
