Hi have recently got back into the habit after a long long lay off and am currently painting some of my ork nobs. I'm struggling with their "jackets/clothes" which I imagine to be leather, the problem is is that the surface is flat, ie. no texture, so what I am really trying to say is how can I add detail to the clothing? it's easy to dry brush the skin with the obvious recesses, but there aren't any on some parts. Currently it just looks like a blob of snakebite leather on a flat surface and looks pretty bland. Any ideas/ techniques I can use?

Actually, if you basecoat snakebite leather and wash with a dark brown mix, you'll see the texture. After the wash dries, you can hit the raised areas and edges with a little bit of Snakebite leather and bleached bone mix

Thanks I'll give it a go. I've got plenty of browns to experiment with. How do I make a "wash? Just water down some paint or does it have to be mixed with something specific?
