Had my first victory tonight at 750, which I've only recently gotten up to being able to field. I've been trying Epic Kreoss, since I like the model [I even used it for regular Kreoss while building] and the theme of having a knightly order list. So he's been my caster lately as I get used to using him.

My first few games with him went well. Against Cryx and Epic Asphyxious I was in a very good position to win and protected myself well against his feat, but some very cunning moves by my opponent got him the win on the last model able to make a legal move to attack Kreoss. Against circle I just couldn't get the rolls - in waiting for "the perfect opportunity" to use Epic Kreoss's feat, two rounds of bad hit rolls prevented me from removing just a couple of infantry models that were in the way of my own infantry trying to themselves get in the way of the [insert name of circle golem-like thing that has a chain attack slam] to keep him from knocking my avatar around. It was eventually mangled and the game went downhill from there. Again versus circle everything went right until I charged at the wrong angle, and got mangled by a Pureblood, but his army was broken with mine largely intact, so I feel I did everything right up until that point.

THIS battle versus Khador was quite bloody.

I had Epic Kreoss, 2 paladins of the wall, Vilmon, The Vassal, a full choir, a seneschal, two units of knights exemplar, 6 knights errant, a revenger, a devout, the Avatar, and three wracks. He had three manowars, the manowar solo, a jack with an axe and a cannon, the Behemoth, Vlad, Yuri, two manhunters, the trio of little caster guys, a mortar, some Doomreavers and Eiryss.

I won the roll and opted to go first, sticking everything close and advance deploying the errants in some nearby woods, which he then advanced deployed yuri, eiryss, and a manhunter near as well. I ran forward with everything chanting safe passage, and cast Sacrosanct on the errant in the woods, a decision that proved very wise.

He popped Vlad's feat and ran the behemoth right up into my face before firing on some knights exemplar, killing the seneschal and some of the knights [restoring the seneschal]. His mortar killed one of the sacrosanct errant [no action for him next turn!] as did Eiryss and Yuri [no actions for them either!]. Everything else advanced down his left flank [my right].

I decimated the behemoth with both infused light warjacks and a paladin, then incinerated it with the avatar, lighting Yuri on fire. My knights advanced along with a paladin, Vilmon and the seneschal.

On his turn the doomreavers made mincemeat out of several of the knights, and all but one was finished off by a manhunter and the mystery jack [anyone know the name?]. The other manhunter advanced with Eiryss, both killing errants and both losing their actions the following turn. Yuri's fire went out but he was killed by knights errant as He tried to move away.

The third turn my avatar sprinted over to my broken battle line on the right, using its gaze to prevent anyone from getting away [or more importantly, charging past into my choir or the vassal or Kreoss!]. The devout moved up closer with Kreoss right behind while the Revenger sprinted up into the face of the mortar crew. The errant knights moved right next to Eiryss and the manhunter, while Vilmon began taking revenge on the Doomreavers.

He responded by moving his manowar up and doing heavy damage to the avatar, killing a paladin, killing the seneschal [again], and then killing the final knight exemplar [seneschal stands back up].

I popped Epic Kreoss's feat and charged the mystery jack with him, followed by the devout moving in to support and the two of them reduced it to scrap. I was a bit overzealous though, and after it was disabled proceeded to spend the extra focus I'd wasted on the devout to demolish it, which was a huge mistake. The devout then killed one of the manhunters, while the errant knights killed the other and then proceeded to duel with Eiryss. The avatar took out the rest of the manowar along with the solo while the revenger killed the mortar crew, and Vilmon finished off all but one of the doomreavers. Things were looking good! He was down to two of the three spellcasters unit, Vlad, and Eiryss in melee.

Unfortunately my devout was facing the wrong way and having demolished the mystery jack, I'd opened a clear route. Vlad cast blood of kings and though he couldn't charge, he walked the two inches between him and the wreck, the 2(4) inches through it, and two more to start pummelling Kreoss. Four focus pumped into attacks later and Epic Kreoss stood with but 1 damage point remaining.

The avatar turned and Vlad's world ended, but that game was very very close indeed! I need to remember that it's not always a good thing to keep hammering away at jacks once they're disabled [or can you move through them anyway, even if not destroyed completely?], that the devout always needs to be facing any direction that an attack MIGHT come at my caster, and that keeping focus on the caster is a good thing - I had three, and I wished I had more. Vlad rolled a 4 for his final attack, and that's the only reason I was alive.

My opponent surprised me by complimenting, on all things, my skill in keeping my choir alive. He said most protectorate players toss them out there to get killed. I couldn't imagine!

I hope you all enjoyed reading!

Nice report. The "mystery jack" is a Destroyer. Thats the only Khador Jack with a gun arm. Props for wiping out the Behemoth so early in the game, that must have seriously demoralized your opponent.

Thought begets heresy. Heresy begets retribution.

Woldwarden. I actually find its animus more threatening
than its chain attack, as it essentially prevents it from
being charged.

Yeah I could never charge it, but I was just trying to move some exemplar I had left in the way between it and the avater to allow it to get up and get away from the accursed thing. It knocked me back twice, the second time into a wall.

That event plus the repeateded mangling of the Avatar in 1 turn by pretty much anything heavy like a centurion, warp wolf, or pureblood is what got me to buy the Vassal. Enliven is sooooo wonderful in keeping that avatar alive, and coupled with Retribution it makes them pay for that hit that they do, too.
