Are the side sponsons optional? All the plastic kits I see built up have them, but the forgeworld examples tend not to. I prefer them without the sponsons so can you build the kit straight from the box without them?

Yes, the sponsons are separate, and you can build it without them without having to do any work.

If you like the concept of sponsons but are unsure, just glue magnets to the sides and build the sponsons separately. Voila, you're ready for either option.

That's a thought, it had crossed my mind with the arm varients on a Dreadnought.
