Hey all,

I've been playing 40K for a bit now and have always been interested in the less emphasized space combat of the 40K universe. Must be my Star Wars fanboyism. Anyways, I have downloaded the rules and have read through the basic rules. Now I need some models. What would two ideal forces be? I was thinking Imperial Navy and Orks (or maybe Chaos). What are some standard point values (500?) and if I could get a few example army lists that'd be great!

Thanks

Hi,

Welcome to BFG. I decided to start the game a while ago and its really good fun. If I were you I would stick with Imperial vs Chaos to start off with, as the boxes of plastic cruisers are cheaper and if you wanted to magnetise/blue tack the different gun battries on you can try out different combonations to see what works for you. For a starter game, I would possible look at about 750-1000 points, by the time you've bought captains, re-rolls and CSM for some of your Chaos cruisers.

Welcome to BFG! For my money GW's best rule set.

deathmaster is right about imp/chaos as these are the only ships you can get in plastic. You don't need many either. Imp Cruisers range from about 180pts to 270pts depending on weapon fit (thats off the top of my head - the figures may be out!) so £12 for two plastic cruisers would be enough for 500pt game!

Come to think about it - it must also be their cheapest game...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Yup- Chaos and Imperials are the way to go at the start- both for ease of modelling and because they have less abilities which are exceptions to the normal rules, therefore making them easier to learn the game with.
