Hey all,

I was just messing around the other day and I had an Ultramarine army painted in a weird stripped highlighted fashion and I decided to change over to this paint job, but I am not sure if I like it all that much, but I need second, third and forth opinions (the more, the merrier!)

So here are a couple of PIP shots, let me know what you think!

and a slightly closer shot:

so how do they look? I am shooting for tabletop quality here, not Golden Demon! I did a regal blue base, Ultramarine blue over that, then to extreme highlights of 50/50 Ultra/Space wolf gray then a touch of just Space wolf gray by itself!

Thanks,
Chappy P!

I like it. I am a big fan of the 'neon' highlights style, I think it makes models stand out on the tabletop.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

That's actually a pretty effective result. You've given it a faux glossy/reflective feel. If that's what you were aiming for, then success is yours my friend!

I might give the eagle a wash of Devlan Mud or something, just to separate the feathers a bit. Then perhaps a quick highlight on the very edges.

nice job, id suggest adding a wash to the eagle, and highlighting the powerplant on back but even if you dont do this their definatly look good.

@Everyone: Thanks for the replies! Right now my main concern was that the Blue on the marine overall looks a bit different than the new darker tone GW has been using for their Ultramarines!?!

I looked on their website but they dry brush the marine in Ultramarine blue, then edge the plates and do some other funky stuff...but it's not the same as the way they have appeared in the past...

Anyway...

@Brassangel and Armored reaper...the Chest eagle and shoulder trim is just the beginning stages...the eagle will get a chestnut ink wash, then I shall highlight up from there...

Also the back packs need to be done as well as the hands...I just wanted to get a feel for how well they would be received and take the painting from there...

Any other thoughts, comment and/or advice??

Thanks,
Chappy P!

It's a good solid job. Reminds me of a better version of the ones they put out at Games Day.

Looking good. Kinda reminds me of Dallimore with your highlighting.

I think I'd go over the blue with a thinned blue wash to darken it a little but it's just my preference. The quality is good.
And an extra highlight for the gold maybe. Overbrush it with Dwarf Bronze to pick it out if you like.

Thanks for the replies! I hope to post some more pictures tomorrow as I have almost 10 guys done to this standard so far! I also have a dreadnought that needs the last 2 stages of highlights, then he'll be done!

I want to get as much stuff done before the new codex drops, so all I have to do is buy a few bits and pieces to have a nice customizable force!

Thanks,
Chappy P!

Hey everyone,

With the new codex just a few months away, and with the new edition looming ominously before us, I wanted to get to work on my Ultramarine army. The base coat and highlights are done on the blue! I still have to do the chest eagles and other such mechanical work, then they will get a bit dirtied up, as my Ultra's are gonna look like they came from Hell!! I am going to make the lower legs look like they have been in the dirt, mud and grim for a long time. I also plan on painting some combat damage on them, so hopefully that'll work out, but I thought I would show the progress I have made, so onto the pics!

Army as it stands now:

A couple more close up shots:
Vet Sgt (who need's a Power fist/Bolt pistol!)

My dreadnought, I'll most likely mimic the eagle on the other side of his torso as well:

And finally I have a squad of Tyranid Warrior Vets who need some paint loving, but here's there ride:

It's still a work in progress!

and a couple of TWV's who have been converted (if they are not in the new codex, then I'll just treat them as a squad of normal troops!)

I hope you enjoy, any comment, critiques and criticisms are more than welcome!! Please share your thoughts!

Thanks,
Chappy P!
