I used to play both 40k and fantasy back in 3E and 5E respectively. I was wondering what the opinions are of people who play both...is 7E fantasy less complicated or more complicated than 40K 5E (or 4th if you haven't read the rules)? I am thinking of starting another army and I can't decide if I want to shell out $30 for a WHFB rulebook and the time to refresh myself on the rules. And from what I recall, WHFB was way more complicated than 40k was. Convince me please!

WHFB is more complicated but not my much, or you could view them as about equal.

Its slower to play, & quicker. Fantasy you will spend a bit more time thinking how you should move, 40k takes a bit more time to actually move because no movement trays (but only with horde armies, other-wise its faster).

Fantasy you need to be more conservative with your terrain because if your not the game gets really slowed down with rank & file troops, but its much more tactical that 40k IF you can't fill your gaming table with lots of terrain.

WHFB is a very line up two armies and kill each other battle game, Its done very very well and I can't think of a way I could improve the rules. Playing 40k 5th edition with the rules that games-workshop staff leaked on the internet(I'll buy the real version asap, so nobody comment please, 6 days to go!).

I can think of many ways I could Improve them and make the game faster, more complex, more tactical & less abusive, (these are not things that will be improved in the retail version unless by sheer miracle).

So in short, you should probably get the rules, they are better and as fast as 40k,

WFB is less luck & more skill dependent so there seems less you can do against the muchkin win-at-all-cost slow crew, but if you have like-minded players as yourself to play against you'll be alright.

get the BFSP though it is awesome value for money even if you do not want to be Orcs or Dwarves.
