Let me know if I am reading this wrong, but in the Apocalypse rules it states that only
scoring units can hold objectives. Per the new 5th ed. Rule book , page 90 scoring units
are only troops. In the past games that I played Very few troops choices where taken.

So in the next APOC games I figure to see this loop hole being used.

I think Apoc games "should" use troops just because of the new edition and all that stuff, but I'm guessing most folks will continue to play as is with anything being scoring...

Hi there

In the upcoming Apocalypse: Reload book (on page 72) it covers just this point. There are essentially three options available.
1) Use the new methods of objective taking (only scoring units can hold but all others can contest)
2) Use the method that was around when Apocalypse was released (ie. the 4th edition objective taking rules)
3) Create your own set of house rules.

As Apocalypse is much more free-form it makes sense that this is one of those things you determine with your opponent before the battle (perhaps before you select your army).

Cheers

The Apocalypse Reload book actually addresses this and encourages the gamers involved to find a mutually agreeable solution. As I recall it gave three scenarios

-play that only Troops can score
-play like in 4th where most things can score (thus making certain formation abilities relevant again,)
-find a happy medium

Personnaly, my gaming group does play like it was 4th for scoring when it comes to APOC.

Personally I like the idea of troops being the only scoring unit.

So far in all Apocalypse games I've played it's pretty much just been super-heavies and tanks digging at each other, with the random squad of Termies or a giant unit of boys or Khorne Bezerkers thrown in randomly (that usually die swiftly and violently, or otherwise do nothing but walk for a turn or two). Which is probably because it seems like everything in Apocalypse has the idea of killing infantry in mind. The Baneblade can put down a massive 57 Ork Boyz in one turn of shooting! Wow! ... So why would anyone bother putting their 57 Ork Boyz on the table in the first place? Just put down a squiggoth. The Baneblade loses alot of lethality against tanks and monstrous creatures, by comparison.

Why all this concentration on killing swathes of troops if troops don't matter? Well, make them matter, and people will just have to overload on Infantry instead of so many Infantry Killers.

Should make for more interesting fights, but we'll see.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

That is all very well, however some Apocalypse games are so big that you make them vehicles only to give the game time to progress.

there should also be exceptions, if a warhound titan baggsies an objective, who are you to complain with your basic squad. Tanks canot truely hold territory, I am not too sure about walkers, patrticularly extra extra large ones.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Personally, I'll be playing that only troops can hold objectives in Apoc, just because it keeps it more consistent with how the main rules (now) work, plus I love the idea of a gigantic swarm of Termagaunts or a Necron Phalnx o' Phalanxes holding on while big nasty beastie tanks pound away at them. If a banebalde can kill 56 Boyz a turn, take 112 Boyz per mob

Edit to fix smiley case

like grabthar said, just take a few green tides.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

You can just do what is the norm in our group now, and take a Vortex Grenade and huck it at the objective.

No objective, no problem. You don't even need troops!
