Can someone recommend me a matt, non-shiny, varnish please? By that I mean, one that doesn't gleam, glisten or reflect, if that is possible, nor does it make the miniature look like it's slimy.

Thanks

the new GW Matt Varnish spray is excellent, as it is almost identical to Testors Dullcoat
it is very flat, and as long as you don't pool it (like any spray varnish) doesn't discolour your model

I've never had ANY luck with ANY GW spray product.

Their matte sealer, WHEN it works properly, never looks matte ENOUGH for me.

The best on the market is Testors Dullcote. It is PURE flat.

It is also the most expensive I've used. The last can I bought was, IIRC, around $5.50.
Not bad, you'd think... but the can is abou a third the size of typical cans. It's teeny.

Testors Dullcoat (also sold under the name Model Master I believe) is an expensive but very good product. I've had no problems with Krylon, but a few with Armory.

I use Krylon Matte. I do one coat, wait an hour or so, then hit it again. THEN... here's my way of doing it, and I recommend this... I use the Vallejo brush-on matte varnish. This stuff rocks. It provides 100% coverage and when dried, it gives your model the same look it had before spraying with varnish. It restores metalic "metalness", it removes any powdery appearance that sometimes models can get after spraying with varnish, and it adds extra protection. It goes on quick and easy and just makes models look good. Your models will look like they've not been sealed, when in reality you have a combination of spray and brush on sealer. Give it a try and see what you think.

Krylon Matte Finish works for me. FYI my primary criteria for a spray matte varnish are that it 1. provides protection 2. does not completely dull metallic paint shine.

Now, testors IS guilty of this.
It will TOTALLY matte finish your model.
Personally though, I prefer that for mainly 2 reasons:

First off, not all metal shines.
Secondly, now that I have the model perfectly matte, I can go back & hit it with a coat of brush-on gloss in places that I want to look shiny (armor, treasure, etc) or wet (water, eyes, fresh blood, etc).
