Well, it is in a line of acrylic paints. and in my experience of adding water to it, it works fine.

But as I always suggest, test it on a model that you don't care about...

I use a peace of laminated board put a brush full of paint on it then dip the brush in some h2o (filtered if I have some in a cup to drink[pored into another container for washing brushes]) then mix it and all is good =) hope it helps

i actually used a mix of ard coat and regular gw paint as the base color (over primer) on my necrons. thinned with water just fine, but gets much tackier than just paint when it starts to congeal/dry, so best to take it in small doses from the pot and move to a new spot of fresh stuff on your pallette as soon as it starts to get tacky.

I agree that you have to work quickly

personally I use it to wash models. much like dipping them but with something that is water soluable.

I mix like 5 drops ardcoat to 2-3 drops ink or paint, add a little water then brush it on. wick up wherever it gets too thick. good idea to rotate the figure every couple of minutes so it doesnt settle badly. but I did some ogres like this and it was as quick as dipping them I think.

Episode 11 of 40k Radio provided a formula for a good thinning / smoothing mix. I started using it, and it seems to work great with my GW paints. You can fast forward to about 9:35 in the podcast to hear the details, but it's a mixture of 1 part Winsor & Newton Flow Improver, 1 part Liquitex Slo-Dri and 2 parts water.

I mixed up a batch and keep it with my paints; I just put a drop or two on the pallet and mix in the paint from the pot in about a 1:1 ratio.
