Like i had posted on my topic about the cobbled up guardsmen, ive been a longtime lurker and finally decided to start posting.

I Currently have plans and ideas for a new imperial guard army. Sadly im extremely low on cash and i dont see a decent cashflow in the future. So while i wait for some money ive decided to plan and layout this army.

I plan to have a completely converted force of my own. I honestly love the cadian models but i want to add my own touch on them to make them unique to me.

How im going to do this is fairly simple.

Im going to use the Pig Iron Kolony militia helmets.

And ive always felt the cadians were missing something on their backs so...

im going to glue more imperial bits to these backpacks to make them seem more attacched to thsi army. *maybe a few lasguns and etc.)

Im also going to be creating with green stuff amor pads and plates, very much like the Harikoni Warhawks model found in the imperial guard collectors guide.

How im going to make them i have no clue, since i have no experience with greenstuff.

Since im talking about greenstuff i would like to share a company selling huge vails of greenstuff for just as much as GW

Now about my army. I any suggestions, pictures, modeling, help, or just some advice is very much appreciated
i also apologieze for not being able to show off any models

Phew. Sounds like a nice project, what with the green stuff and such.

Maybe, if you;re inexperienced, using simple plasticard plates would be better? I for one know how hard it is to scultp geometry <_<

Good luck.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

This is going to be a PROJECT my friend, I hope you're up for it. I'd say go to a hobbytown or something like that, and buy plasticard and use that as the base for the plates and build greenstuff behind it. The armor and the backpack are the big ticket items for your look, so maybe you can figure out something with modified vox casters. You can get them cheap via a bits store and they look pretty boss. thirdly, and with the release of the new IG dex soon, either save up for some valkyries or figure out a proxy model that you like and stock up (I use Vietnam Era Huey's for mine, ooh-rah) Other than that its all the paint job and how you portray them, they can't look too static, that'll take away from the idea. Hope I helped a bit

Yay, another person who wants to rise to the challenge. Here's a few tips that I have learned during the construction of my WiP completely converted guard army. (links to pictures in my sig. Sorry, I like to advertise a lot)
1. Get all your 40k bits in one place. (i use some small drawers). Sort them if you want. Spend a long time sitting at a desk with all your bits, trying different combinations of bits and just trying to get inspiration. Some great conversions have been made by sitting down and just fiddling with the bits you have.
2. Vehicles are important. If you are going to get any, make sure you do a bit of personalisation to the bodywork or the details. It makes them look so much better. (I have a thread about my vehicles)
3. Look everywhere for inspiration. In WDs, on the internet (dysartes.com has some great articles and typing something like 'imperial guard conversions' into google image yields some interesting results) and from your fellow gamers at stores and conventions.
4. Always have some simple little conversion you can do if all else fails. (which you have already got. Mine was to cut the thicker part of the barrel off every lasgun bar one or two which were converted in some other way so that they looked more compact and better for tighter combat)
5. Hobby saws are your friends. Pin vices are your friends. Scalpels are your friends (as well as Stanly knives, but they aren't as good). Try to get a scalpel which has a blade that looks more like a D rather than a really pointy one V as the ends snap off really easily. Always keep both types of glues around.
6. Lastly, don't be afraid. About trying out conversions and about taking a long time, I've been working on my guard army for nearly 2 years and I've only got 1406 points not counting the vulture. But I've got 42 converted guardsmen and 4 converted vehicles, all of which I think turned out really great. And finally, if you screw up while converting, there is always a way out of it.

EDIT: oh and here's a link to a dysartes article which tells you how to model carapace armor. also, photobucket doesn't seem to be working. You can still view picture though.

You've got your work cut out for you. i tried sculpting the carapace before and it took too long and did not look all that great.

Ive also started a converted IG army. The 31st Cadian Snowtroopers. Ive converted most of my guardsmen with skis. Also tanks Ive planned to convert Chimeras like Salamanders. But enough of my army. When converting a IG army youve got to think about background and warzoned they are in. For example snow based, Or Trench warfare with gas masks and trenchcoats. Or you can convert snipers which fight in forests, by hiding them behind trees or under foliage.

Good luck with your army

p.s. post some pics
