I am in the process of merging models from 3 existing armies into one under a single colorscheme.

Here is what I have:
*Speedfreeks (red with orange markings)
*Stompas (Olive green Camo with Yellow markings)
*Dethskulls (Ultramarine Blue with Yellow and goff markings)

Since Dethskulls are my best painted army and I really like the blue and green together, I am going to repaint via the BLUE dethskulls colors.

Any one have any ideas on how to model 'red paint job' but not have it look like some out of place vehicles? Anyone have some creative tips on how to mix red onto an ork vehicle of another theme and make it look good? How much red do you think I need to fulfill WYSIWYG (like there isn't an ork vehicle in history that is not going to take that extra upgrade)

Thanks!

What I would say is do stripes of red down the sides of the trukk. In Ciaphas Cain it is noted that ork tanks only use stripes of red when there is not enough.

Or you could make it look like it used to be red, but the deffskulls painted blue over it. For example, instead of silver chips you could have red chips.

You could just use a 'Blue paint job' as a counts as. Just say your boyz think blue ones go faster.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

Yep, the counts as rule works well here.

Evil Sunz: "Red ones go fasta."
Bad Moons: "Expensive ones go fasta."
Goffs: "Stripped down ones go fasta."
Deffskulls: "It was red yesterday."
Blood axes: "High octane squig oil and supacharga"
Snakebites: "Special brew squig oil."

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Blue is the deathskullz lucky color. Paint the engine red for speed, and the weapons and armor plates blue for luck.

yeah, painting the engine or wheels red makes perfect orky sense.

But so long as there's a decent splash of red somewhere on each 'red paint job' model and none on the non-'red paint job' models, I think you're fine.

Step one:
Paint Trukk in your standard deffskull colours.

Step two:
take tank brush, insert in blood red pot, wave randomly at trukk

Done.

Many a Sentinel pilot has hesitated to call his vehicle a walking coffin after battling beside a Dreadnought.

I like the 'red stripe' idea earlier on, it'll make the vehicles clearly have the Red Paint Job, but the blue will still be a cohesive theme. You could do different takes on the 'red stripe' idea, by making one vehicle have red dags on the plates, another has red and black checkerboard on it, etc.

I kinda like the red stripe idea. Or possibly flames or something.

I am going to have to do some tests to see how they look. Thanks for the ideas!

You could paint random plates read as well. That's what I have started doing, now that I am really swinging into the Bad Moons feel of my army.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.
