So I was playing the old fire warrior game. And I realized that when the tau sent groups of fire warriors over to the imperial space ship. They went in what were basically devilfish. And hoped out in normal fire warrior suits.

The boarding craft the tau used was like a devil fish with the engines stuck on a detachable add on in the back. As soon as the fish broke through the imperial shields, the engines broke off and the fish crash landed.

At the start of the mission, the fire warriors hoped out of the fish. And you had to go disable some guns or some such.

I knew the space marine power armor was its own environment (enabling them to fight any ware, even underwater) but I am not to sure about the tau fire warrior suit. Battle suits sure (maybe not underwater).

A few things I think of.

1. The fact that the engines detach makes retreat impossible. So it is basically a suicide mission which the tau don’t like.

2. I thought it was agent’s tau tactics to board enemy ships.

3. If the fire warrior suit is space compatible, this makes for some cool mission scenarios for me and my marine buddy to play out.

so what are your thoughts?

Don't read too much into Fire Warrior, it's fairly inaccurate as far as capabilities go.

Penetrating so many secrets, we cease to believe in the unknowable. But there it sits nevertheless, calmly licking its chops.

The naval armsmen on the deck were wearing rebreathers, which function in airless enviroments (Which could mean vacuum or simply inhospitable atmosphere). It is possible however that there was a protective shield above deck to keep the air in (As later, you encounter Navy crewmen without masks in open areas).
So basically, it's difficult to establish whether or not there was atmosphere in that enviroment to judge whether a standard Fire Warrior can operate in a vacuum.

All I know is that XV-86 battlesuits are space-going (Pg 171 in the 5th ED rulebook).

The tau fire warrior suit is not!
It lacks any power-generating source compatible of outer-atmosphere survival.
No sorry, this is just armor. Maybe a few sensors and a vox inside, but space is a question of pressure and something to breathe.
You could try to model some rebreathers other diving equipment to a squad to give em restricted survival in space.

@ Gangsta

yes... but it has GREAT cut scens. which IMHO are totaly worth playing the game for. yes, you could watch them on youtube.... but nothing like imperial assault boats crashing into the side fo a tau ship on a big screen T.V.

as for a power source, what is that nifty backpack for?? and i could total see the tau helmets having some kind of rebreather in it... then again, this presents me with some nifty modeling ops.. hummm give the fire warrior a jet pack so he can move around in space. need an oxyegen tank someware. and beef up the helmet a bit.

some part of me so wants to play out a sernio in which i have to disable a nova cannon before it recharges and fires on a planet...

What I really found funny with Fire Warrior is the fact that lasguns and autoguns were better than pulse rifles.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Fire Warrior is the worst game every made, but the last thing you should do from it is try to extrapolate fluff from it.

@ corpsearefun: Where did you get the etheral = psyker idea from?

Tau have only little warp-presence =
Tau etherals have a psi attack =
Tau can block psi =
Tau have their own source of mindcontrol to "lead" Tau by etherals =
Etherals are the leading caste not the warp-using caste =

I don't see psykers there,did you?

I think my problem lies in that I read the novel "fire warrior" before I played the game :(

The book rules. Best part is when O Kais said "For the greater good!" and shoots the demon with his rail rifle.
