Did I somehow miss reports about GD Chicago? The only thing I've seen about it was the report from BOLS. Did no one else attend? I'm seeing all this stuff about GD Germany, but nothing from Illinois.

*EDIT* Nevermind. I found it. I failed to use my Search-fu.

Still - pretty slim discussion on the goings on...

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

My impression was that there wasn't much new on the newsfront from the Chicago GD...

I was there, but I was playing in the tournament, so I didn't get a chance to see much.

I was there w/ my son. It seemed to me to be little going on. The new product release seminar was less informative that the discussions here or on warseer. The Golden Demons were spectacular, but that's nothing new. The GW run events were okay, the megabattle was Skull-Hamma's vs Blaneblades. There were many club tables, including one from Adeptus Fabulous from Michigan that was a BMX tack for Ork bikes, now that was loads of fun.

All in all, a good time was had by most. Not nearly as inspiring to the hobbyist in me as Adepticon, but still fun.

There was like, NOTHING new.

At least I couldn't find anything.

ForgeWorld didn't have a single new model (they didn't even have the mole mortar or the drilling machine! So disappointed!)

New product was "SPAZE MAREEEENZ HURR!!", but they didn't even show all the special characters, or the new Drop Pod. Then 4 slides on the new Warriors of Chaos that went by in about a blink of an eye (and they refused to show it to us again).

THQ was actually a no show (they were on the map to have a both, and were on the schedule for a demonstration, but nada!). Surprised.

EAMythic had nothing new. In fact, they had a smaller booth, I believe, with less plasma TVs...

I missed the first section of the Black Library presentation, but honestly it didn't seem like much was forthcoming, other than what we know about. The next Horus Heresy book is being written in tandem by Abnett and I think Graham McNeill, not sure. That's kinda cool.

Even the big game was pretty disappointing, Skullhamas and Baneblades digging at each other *yawn*. What happened to the Lucky 13s damnit?!

The highlights of the show were ForgeWorld and BlackLibrary brought LOTS and LOTS of stock, so even though I got there late I got a buttload of goodies I had my eyes on, including Battle for the Abyss (which made me positively giddy). Whereas last year at that time both booths had pretty much sold out of everything.

The swag was pretty much a let-down. No free junk when you walked in the door beyond your free mini, no new events, paltry raffles compared to the last couple years. They did try to unload on their stock of Warhammer 25th Anniversary Box sets near the end of the day, they marked them down to about 60-70$ each. It was really fun watching the SWARM of people drop what they were doing and run to the store area. I felt bad for my friend who was just browsing at the time.

Oh and apparently they rig the Warhammer Online demo so the Disorder side loses

Really felt like they were just going through the motions. Don't get me wrong, I had alot of fun. I'll go again next year, but there's little discussion because there's little to discuss.

Honestly, I came to the conclusion that GamesDay UK is THE GamesDay, and all GamesDays are secondary to it! Thus GamesDay UK gets all the coolest new product seminars and ForgeWorld teasers, thus Chicago GamesDay is on the ass end of the GamesDay 'Season', thus we get crap that you could've seen at GamesDay UK about 10 months ago.

The prize support for the tournaments was non-existant as well. I paid $50 to attend the tournament ($40 for a Games Day ticket, $10 for the tournament, and due to things falling behind schedule, had no actual time to do anything at Games Day other than the tournament, so I consider that a $50 tournament.)

The prize support was limited to plaques.

Don't get me wrong, I had a good time playing my last 4th ed games. But, for a $50 entry fee, having no real prizes seemed extremely cheap on their part. I've been to free tournaments where the winner received a $50 gift-card. After hearing about the crazy discounts they were offering in the store, they could have put together some small product prizes for the people who shelled out $50 to play three games.

Out of curiosity did they say anything during the Black Library seminar about Abnett doing the Double Eagle sequel, "Interceptor City"?

I missed the first 5 minutes of the BL seminar, and when I got there they were already in QnA... for some reason. The only thing I heard about Dan Abnett's Double Eagle sequel is that he's doing it, on top of all the other crap that he's doing. Which is hardly news to anyone.

In their defense, apparently their database crashed before the event and they had to cobble together PowerPoint slides for the seminars the night of (which does explain why they sucked) and they were forced to organize the tournament by hand (ouch).

The woes of being unprepared!

Okay, cool. As long as he's still doing it. Granted with everything else he's working on, who knows when it will come out?
