decided to work on a side project, looking through the lizardmen armies book (thanks to a friend) i decided to start a southlands army, looks pretty weak at 1st, but an army capable of throwing out over 100 poisoned shots a turn isnt to be laughed at
now, onto the models, most things are pretty basic, for example, my skinks with bows (southlands skinks can upgrade to poisoned shortbows) all i have done is use the drawf crossbow, cutting off the haft and putting it on a skink (still need the quill)
but while looking at the list i saw cold one riders, so theres my 2nd project, 1st being making a skink chief on a cold one (currently made and undercoated ready for some paint) pics will be put up soon.
also thinking of a character on a steggy.
and just a quick question, ive seen a sacred spawning list somewhere (a while back) just wondering if it can be used on a southlands army as the lore of fire or death is a little more appealing than heavens.
any other ideas to add more of a southlands theme are welcome.

ok, so a white undercoat doesent look too good in pics, but one the painting gets further and theres less white it should look better.

so an army of nothing but skinks that sounds nice considering there will be masses of troops for you to use, cool model looking forward to seeing him painted.

I'll warn you now, if your opponents are anything like the ones I faced, you'll have to listen to a LOT of whining about the skinks. Their weak nature that forces them to hit and run to deny enemy retaliation, and the fact they excel at doing just that due to all the skirmishing, tends to really annoy the crap out of people.

Oh, and I used Goblin short bows for mine. They come with quivers.

i know aduro, and the look on someones face when thier bloodthirster dies without moving is priceless lol, the poison and multiple shots + scout more than makes up for the fact they cant fight atall lol.
but i feel that 6 points for a skink is too much compared to a gobbo (2 points) and a gobbo has a much better stat line.

main battle plan: use terradons and chameleons for war machines + lone characters, the cold one ridersmay be god for a flank attack concidering the cold ones fight alot better than the skink lol.
then i will just have kroxigors, steggy and jungle swarms for taking out small units.

not sure about rules for DOW, but can the giant be used by lizardmen? im guessing not, but worth a try, and a good moddeling oppertunity

I always had to explain this to people when they complained I never used the ranks of skinks.

the skink cohorts could be amusing, with the general near by with a steggadon helm the unit is pretty hard to break due to cold blooded rule, atleast the cohorts can be used to tie up units, and against much smaller units with no bonuses they may even win lol


started paiting now, all ive done is the cold ones skin, the skinks skin, and the feathers, but thats only the base coats, all still need inking, drybrushing and highlights

anyways, im off for the night, got work soon lol, should nearly finish painting the mounted skink chief and start on the cold one riders.

as allways, any ideas and suggestions are allways welcome

Luck with the project, I'm a fan of the Southlands list. I would like to see some ranked skinks myself, though they're really 6 points a pop? Wow, that's unfortunate. They're still T2 right? Blerg.

Good luck with the Southlands list, I never manged to use it well , but thats just moi

i know salvage, even skaven are better statted (real word?) and cheaper.
but, since you put the idea in ill get some rank and file skinks started, also making some "skink temple guard" lol, same stats as standard skinks, but just with halberds and steggy helmets and maybe more armour.

thanks arran, ive used it quite a few times, only problem is against things with good armour, about the best i can do is let the salamanders attack them or charge them with a steggy or krox, but usually they wont win the combat.

ok, the painting is getting there and ive started drawing up concepts for the "skink guard"
should have the chief on horned one done by tomorrow

Updates at last!

due to alot of work recently ive been getting lazy, but ive finally managed to finish the skink chief on horned one
also put together 12 skink skirmishers with bows (need some paint on em now)
havent painted the base yet, leaving it nuteral untill i decide a colour scheme.

ok, started the undercoat on a unit of 12 skink bowmen, should have them done in a few days (if work doesent get in the way)
also just brought 3 kroxigors, bargain from ebay at £3 each lol, all thats wrong is someone chopped off one of thier heads :K
so he will now become the ancient with a little work.

just picked up this months WD book, and i saw the new dark elves, great arent they?
shame im going to buy a box of cold one knights and cut them up
would look much better as horned ones for my skinks, this has to be the best version of the cold one GW has made, since they have re-made the old 1985 style ones!
and this time in easy to adapt plastic, so now a box of those are on order from ebay, and now im nearly finished the unit of 12 archers.

hmm, the lizardman on top of that horned one reminds me of claudio sanchez's hair from coheed and cambria ... looks a nice model though : )

gaunt, i get loads of complaints lol, they just dislike getting hit by over 150 poisoned shots per tern, all hitting and auto wounding on 6's
