But in this case, I think the paint looks a bit thick-ish. The red could be used on the pistol, but I think you should have been more bold on the sword holster and the hair.
For me, it's more like... you managed to get a good solid base (would be better if the coats were thinners - or is the model textured? Could be that the metal is no longer "flat", from being old) but I think you didn't highlight it enough, or rather, you didn't get it to shine... But inverting some of the colours of the UM 'Eavy Metal mini was a good step. But the "black lining" just doesn't look even (his forehead) and some of the metal is a bit undetailed (the part where the hair stands).
I thought it was a good entry (sorry to say that I think I've seen an older post from you and I wasn't impressed by your minis, but this one seems a lot better than I could remember - hope you don't take it as an insult!) but ultimately it lacked some "shine" to it, something to catch the eye. You could've also painted the eyes like you paint gems, it would have given a focal point and that's what I think the miniature is missing.
Good work none-the-less!
Thank you.
With regards to the paint thickness, I have to agree. I think it was working in metallics that caused a bit of the problem. If I thin metallics, the have no coverage. Given the current thickness, I was hesitant to take it up to a silver highligh. I knew I should have done more on the eyes as well.
As for the older post, I don't doubt it either. For basic troopers, I really just want to get them on the field. I'd like to say I'm more of a player than a painter, but my current record isn't allowing me to day that either...
