Hey all,
I know how much I enjoy looking at the
WIP threads, so I thought I'd post my own. I recently sold my Imperial Fist army so I could...start another Space Marine Army. I'm going to be doing a Death Watch themed chapter. I really want this took look good, so I'm going to go crazy with the bits. One major selling point for me is that I want each model to have a shoulder pad with raised iconography. I also want the models to look different, so as to represent coming from different chapters. So, I'm also going to be using a bunch of chaos bits too.
So, without further adieu , here's what I'm starting this project with.
Basically I traded and rummaged around to find a whole lot of heads, shoulder pads, ammo belts, holsters, grenades, and close combat weapons. I also bought the Iron Hands
tac set, the imperial fist conversion set (I can get crimson and IF out of that), and four of the DWKT conversion kits. I have some Ultramarine pads and a couple of command squad pads. I also have a few chaos pads. I'll bit order some different shoulder pads in the future. But for now I've got enough to get this project started.
The first model I finished was an Imperial Fist one. It was my old army so I couldn't help it. I'm really happy with how he turned out and he was definitely the inspriation for this army.
The next guy I decided to paint was a conversion I made from the Ultramarine Tyranid Veteran model. I love these models and I orginially bought them to convert into my Imperial Fist Army. Originally I had filed off the Ultramarine iconography on the left shoulder pad and had started to paint them IF colors, but I sorta abandoned the project. When I started doing this DWKT project, I decided who better to Hunt Xenos than a veteran of the Tyranid invasion of Macragge. I busted out the Dremel.
I cut off the left shoulder with my dremel. I don't know how many years I took off my life with all that sawing, but I was a little disturbed at how little actual chunks of metal remained after my handy work. Most of the metal turned to dust.
I then took a left arm from a bolter marine, cut it below the elbow, glued it to the DWKT pad, and stuck it on the model. It fit pretty well, but there were spots I had sawn off that weren't covered by the new arm and pad. So, the front of the shoulder got a new purity seal and the back got some grenades.
Then it was time to paint him. I have to admit I wasn't as happy with the paint job on this guy. Mainly, I had a much more difficult time doing the hard edging. For some reason I wasn't able to get as smooth of lines as I could on the IF guy. I'm wondering if maybe the metal model just don't have even edges. Either way it's still a good table top standard. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to do the edging? What type of brush should I use and how diluted should the paint be?
Here's a picture of the next two on the to do cue. A white scar and a blood angel 2nd company.
