If you haven't guessed, Im in a bit of a motivational slump with regards to 40k. I go to college in Monroe Louisiana, if you aren't familiar, just imagine any average cultureless bible belt do-nothing town. Been going there for a couple of years to get into pharmacy school, and now that I've gotten in, am looking at 4 more. No gaming scene at all, unless you count MTG.
So basically, I have no motivation to work on 40k stuff. When there isn't anyone to play( and noone wants to take up such an "expensive hobby") my creativity and motivation are completely drained. I keep coming back because I love the creative outlet and competition the game provides, but I just can't find to motivation to do anything. I started a Tyranid army last year and I just haven't wanted to work on it.
So anyone else experiencing, or have experienced something similar?

Well, the advent of the 5th edition reboot of the game killed my interest in doing anything for it, or even playing it.
But there's been several times when my motivation to do anything or play is killed by the holier-than-thou one right way to play whiners.

Try posting in the Dakka gamer catalogue, you might find another user through there. If you're lucky, there might even be a club nearby.
Other than that, just keep on using dakka. We're always here for you :p

Do you have more than one army? if so, then the game WON'T be expensive to get people into. Let them use your models. Invest in an extra rulebook (your priciest investment) and some dice and you're set.

Exact same problem, but it's just a private college. I hate it there, but I love the group of people I hang with there and put up with the town/school for it. But I can't fit the bill anymore so they can suck it, I'm going to nursing school!

Awww, he's been working on 'em anyway.
I find that playing a bit gets me out of a slump, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be an option for you. You may want to try listening to some gaming-related podcasts (see my sig for my favorites), and 40k Radio in particular may pique your interest again. Also, if you can afford it, attend a convention where they play 40k. Getting an army ready for a tourney is the best motivator.
Good luck!

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

Well, I'd certainly try everything recommended first, but pharmacy school is a long professional program. If it comes down to it, simply box all your 40k stuff up, leave your paints out, and do some other hobby work. Paint M:TG wound counters, or random reaper minis, or whatever to keep your painting skills up. Don't sell your armies or anything, just box them up.
You might decide to go back to it, or you might not get back to it until after you graduate. From your post, you seem to enjoy the social/gaming aspect of the hobby a bit more than the pure modeling/painting side, so I say focus your gaming efforts where you will find action. 40k will be here when you get back. Just never, ever sell your army.

Monroe is 2 hours away Jackson, MS. There is a Hobbytown in Flowood, just outside of Jackson. I know there's some guys who play there. I believe one of is Red_Thirst who posts on dakka. I don't have his e-mail address anymore, though.

I've been in a slump for 4 years, still haven't painted anything in 3. That's all changing though, largely due to 40k radio.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. And while building a new army can be pretty expensive, the new Black Reach Box set will allow for some pretty reasonably priced armies. I mean, $120 for 1100 points of Marines and 900 points of Orks is pretty dirt cheap these days.
