Does anyone know why termagants are spelled the way the are (and not termagaunt)? I was wondering if it originally was a typo that slipped through the cracks. For example that codexes were produced with the typo and GW just decided to keep the name. Or was the termagant intended to be different from other gaunts? Anyone know the inside story?

Termagant and Harridan are both disparaging terms for women, meaning something like shrew or hag, mostly related to behavior.

Penetrating so many secrets, we cease to believe in the unknowable. But there it sits nevertheless, calmly licking its chops.

* H. L. Mencken, in Minority Report (1956)
