Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I'm using the Blood Angels codex. As such I don't see why I can't publish points costs.

3x 5 man Combat Squads gives you 15 guys, 3 meltaguns and 3 Ld9 Power Weapons for 420 Points.

2x 10 man squad gives you 20 guys, 2 meltaguns and 2 ld9 Power Weapons for 430 points.

The question is, which is better. The first has 6 'special' guys and 9 bolter guys. The second has 4 'special' guys and 16 bolter guys.

Thing is as a bonus when you take casualties you are less likely to lose a 'special' guy when you have all those bullet catchers around.

So I would go with the full squads I think, especially if they were running at say Tau. Stinkin' Tau! On top of that if you taking a full squad you may as well throw in a Rhino or two.

Wait ... you need a full squad to take Special Weapons anyway now, don't you. Makes that an easy decision.

If you're using the Blood Angels codex, it says nothing about needing to number 10 models to take a special weapon. You can still get melta/plasma/flamer at 5 models.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Here is the new ones using the Dark Angels books and the rumoured changes to heavy and special weapons.

2x 10 man for 380 points
2 Meltaguns, 2 Power Weapons, 16 Bolters

3x 5 man for 315 points
0 Meltaguns, 3 Power Weapons, 12 Bolters (65 (70) points buys two Lascannons in dev squads)

So the question is, are the 3 man squads any good. You can give the Vets a combi-weapon, too. Flamers and Meltaguns often only shoot once anyway. The thing is the Sergeants can get killed easily. So I would probably still stick with the 10 man squads.

5 man squads die fairly easily. I need ablatative wounds in my force, if for nothing else than keeping the 2 attack MC away from my PF in HTH.
