I've got the starter box set.
Anybody got any ideas where I might find people to play with?
Dreamation is a goal of mine, but I won't make it to NJ anytime soon.
I'm going to the UK in December.

A tough slug. GW goes out of its way to stomp down its direct competitors. ('course that won't save them from getting their B-Hinds bottled by prepaints, but that's another thread...)
I'd say start by painting up both armies and getting two or three support pieces for each force. If you have access to a non-GW gaming venue, if you bring all the pieces and are willing to referee the occasional game, you could build a play group around yourself. If nothing happens with it, you should be able to get rid of the whole thing for not much less than you paid for it.
I've seen the sculpts from the old box and personally I think they would dip up great. WarZone is pretty much like the 1990-something Eritrea-Ethiopia conflict - First World War tactics coupled to Cold War technology - with just a little leavening of low science fantasy. Personally I've got about 80 Undead Legionnaire conversions (DE + IG + SM + VC - hey, a Kratach is just a boltgun shooting rubber bullets) waiting for some plastic cement and motivation.
GL and HF
...and if no-one likes the rules, you've got yourself a brace of rival IG forces for non-GW supervised games.

I've always been partial to Bauhaus. Their raptor riders are cool as hell and can be converted as rough riders for IG. It's been a long time since I played though.

Conversion? I simply use them without modification as Rough Riders. Get lots of "Those are cool Rough Riders, where did you get them?" comments when I pull them out. Nobody's been confused yet with what they are and what they're armed with.
My Leman Russ(es) are 1/36 scale Panzer MkIVs. Exact same length and height as a GW LR too. Those aren't painted up yet. However, at $10 each and how they fit the "theme" of my force (Bauhaus IG) it was too cool to pass up.
I miss playing Warzone though...

The beauty of the original Warzone - and I mean the ORIGINAL - pre Beasts of War, when the Mercurian Maculator needed house rules to be used in a game - was that it was the ultimate kid-friendly tabletop game. You could play and have fun with a fifteen dollar share towards the thirty dollar rulebook and a ten dollar blister of assault rifle men. My one and only beef was the way machine guns got a magically higher ROF in the hands of heroes, and the way said assault rifle heroes would constantly seem to popup. Still, by the standards of the mid-nineties, that wasn't that bad. (I remember my other favourite sport involved flying a Bretonnian hero on a pegasus with the Virtue of the Joust and the Heart of Woe straight at the toughest Dwarf on the field...ah, good times...)
edit - has anyone seen the fresh Mutant Chronicles miniatures? They've got a certain appeal. 54mm and Battletech-style print out maps.
edit2 - and they're prepaints too!

I seen it. saw thr front of the box and was excited. Saw the back of the box and was disappointed. 54mm figs prepainted on heroquest-like hexes It's just going to end up like the other pre-peinted games in my FLGS, maybe 5 people playing it after the intial rush, if its lucky

I´ve seen the figures and I can say that I´m not impresed. I was hoping for figures more in line with the old metal ones. Still it´s only Capitol and Dark Legion, I´ll hold on until I see Bauhaus and the Brotherhood to comit or not.

Jenkins: You don't have jurisdiction here!
Smith Jamison: We aren't here, which means when we open up on you and shred your bodies with automatic fire then this will never have happened.
About the Clans: "Those brief outbursts of sense can't hold back the wave of sibko bred, over hormoned sociopaths that they crank out though." |

I kind alike it both because of my nostalgia for the original WarZone, the fact that I won't have to paint anything, the fact that there will be no discussion on terrain setup, and the fact that something so easy and appealing to children is a definite "dagger at the heart of Japan" scenario for GW.

I played the Original Warzone as well - Cybertronic was my force. Still have these models. It was a great gateway game for me at the time since I didn't want anything to do with a game that involved hundreds of models. I was so young then.
Ended up with 2 small units of Cybertronic Warriors, some Mirror Men, two Scorpions, two Cybernetic Deathdroids, Vince Diamond, and Cyril whatshisname. Actually a pretty decent collection. Also have a couple more models I may never paint - the paints I used on my original models are long gone and I do not know if I can even match the colors anymore.
My guys came out looking like Borg. Really, really cool. Good times. I think I won about half the games I played, so not bad.
