So I'm finally going kicking and screaming into the world of 750 Play. I've gotten enough of the beatstick that is pVlad and I want to try something a little less blunt for a warcaster so I'm going to use eIrusk for a while.

On the side of it, I want to use Jacks at 750, despite the fact that eIrusk really likes having lots of warriors I think I can get some mileage out of Jacks using the Koldun Lord (proxied in until they release his model). Given my experience marshalling a Beserker with a Kovnik using pVlad's signs and portents to make it work, I think the new Koldun gives Khador a way to run jacks and make them effective. The only downside is that not having them in Irusk's battlegroup means they can't use the Blitzkrieg spell, but I figure he'll be busy working with the infantry going up the center and the Koldun can run the jacks on a flank.

Here's what I'm planning on:

Supreme Kommandant Irusk

Koldun Lord
-> Berserker
-> Kodiak

10 Iron Fang Pikemen + UA

9 Winterguard + UA

4 Man-o-War Demo Corps

Grey Lords Ternion

Widowmakers

Mortar

Any thoughts?

First, I just want to make sure you are aware of all of the limitations of this configuration.

1) As you said, no Blitzkrieg. All you really lose is the SPD+5" charges, as your jack marshall makes them charge for free anyways.

2) No warjack bond. This may or may not hurt depending on your opponent. You clearly aren't planning on throwing a jack forward, so it's not a big loss.

3) The Koldun Lord's Drive only boosts initial attacks. This means the chain attacks are NOT boosted to hit by the Drive.

4) The Koldun Lord can only move enemy ranged and magic attacks to his jacks. If he gets hit in melee, he's taking the damage. And at ARM 18 and 5 damage, one good hit is all it takes to kill him.

5) The usual "no power attacks" spiel.

However, this is just what you trade for possibly getting the equivalent of 6 free focus when both of your jacks successfully use the KL's Drive and charge something, the ability to kill Vilmon, Wraiths, etc., free concealment, and extra durability on the KL. With Irusk around, the KL's CMD goes up to 10 for easier Drive checks, and he gets Tough. And with the Greylords, you might be able to get those chain attacks off anyways. Finally, the Berserker can charge for free already, so it can save the jack marshall boost for boosting the attack roll on the chain attack.

Anyways, the only thing that looks out of place for me is the Demo Corps. You've got a good solid frontline with the IFP, a ranged attacking second line for softening up targets before the frontline charges with the Winterguard, and the Mortar and Greylords in the back field for cover fire and support. I suppose the DC could be used to expand the front line. I don't like them in the second line at all; their medium bases can be targetted through the IFP and it becomes much too crowded. Maybe flankers with Tactical Supremacy? What are your plans for them?

If you don't have a clear role for the DC, I suggest getting another Mortar, a Rocketeer, and Yuri to replace them. Yuri can back up the Widowmakers and the Rocketeer and Mortar provide more cover fire.

I'm aware of the limitations of the Jack Marshall but I think it does well enough on it's own. The Speed Limitations compared to what I was used to rather sucks, but I'm learning to deal with it.

The Demo Corps are in there because I love the MoW and because I've found them staggeringly effective. The Grey Lords pump out clouds on them to boost the Defense and they go on the flank of my IFP/Winterguard block that goes in the center.

The IFP are normally shield walling and the Winterguard are using Bob & Weave so generally I find they can keep up with the block just by running. Also while I've found that most opponents don't want to be shot my my Mortar all day and try to get on me fast, if I must advance and fast, then Tactical Supremacy should help them out a bit.

My first two games with this list went well, though I lost both - it was due to misplacing Irusk or forgetting to move him after activation. Just basic mistakes that I need to get better with. I've come from playing with Vlad/Sorcha, so getting the idea that he's not a "Safe" as those two are after moving into position to get a spell off is just something I'm acclimating to. Both games it was my own mistake that cost me the match and both games I was well setup for the kill the following turn.

Hi,

I often play against Khador and my main solution against their jacks is to KD them and not to destroy them. I think that you should take advantage of eirusk's bond because it is really usefull on jacks that are easy (low def) to KD.

The Kodiak is a good choice for the bond. If I remember well, I think this jack can run for free so it wont cost you a lot of focus.

I haven't had too much trouble with people knocking down my Jacks.

My main strategy with getting them into combat revolves around the careful use of Irusk's feat. This generally can put the halt on the enemy advance once they're setup for the charge and can allow me to get my jacks stuck in properly.

I'm finding that with eIrusk I can generally have a few focus left over to give to a jack in most cases, but it has been nice to have it all to himself in turns where I was pumping out spells with full force.

Also as an update, this list has performed really well for me in the past two games - both netting me wins for the Motherland. In both games the Jacks didn't necessarily get me the kill, but they were integral in setting it up so that I could get the kill off in both games.

Had some more success with this style list, though I changed it up to not use the Proxied Model:

Supreme Kommandant Irusk
-> Behemoth

Drakhun + Dismount

9 Iron Fang Pikemen + UA

9 Winterguard + UA

4 Man-o-War Demo Corps

Grey Lords Ternion

Widowmakers

Mortar

I have to say, Fire For Effect is absolutely AMAZING.
