There is no reason to explain who or why you voted but if you want feel free. Also on another note this gives our dakka brothers and sisters from overseas to vote

I object to this poll as it does not have Dr. Minister Ron Paul as an option.

Yeah, Paul isn't an option anymore as a Republican, but he could make a run as independent, so he's as on-there as he's gonna be in the election.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

My opinion counts for jack all in this election but hey..

After watching some Obama speeches (coming on to like an hour each) I was pretty much taken. He appears to have a reasonable talent for leadership.

Me and some mates have been argueing over the election debate for months now, but since McCain chose Palin for VP we've all agreed Obama is the safer choice. Palin??? Seriously?? I mean no offence, but as a cheap shot to get the vote from women wanting any old woman in power she was a bad choice in our united agreement. (and we very rarely agree on political issues). She's a walking time bomb for McCain.

I hope the good, decent folk over the pond understand that if McCain was in power, Palin would be a heartbeat away from Presidency.... mmm... fun...

But maybe we've just been given a confused and poor picture from the media coverage thats come our way and the Republicans are the way to go.

I was really quite torn as I like and dislike things about both candidates but generally feel they are both good men. It comes down to VP this time I guess. Biden doesn't do anything for me but I do not want Palin near the Executive. Now, there is a lot of time still left before the vote so I could change my mind but as it stands I can't see voting for McCain with her as his running mate.

I voted McCain/Palin.

Obama reminds me way to much of our Australian Prime Minister who never acctually stood for anything, or rather stood for all things depending upon who he was talking to at the time, and when he got in has done nothing of any real, non symbolic value except instigate over 90 reviews/commissions and then instigated further reviews of those recommendations. In essense a do nothing government.

I thought Palin was a good choice when selected, it certainly threw the democrats off guard. Then the family issues arose and I was sure the media was going to slaughter her and McCain.
But its turned the McCain campaign around completely and the problem for Obama is that the media is focused on Palin not him and his popularity has been a media driven beast from the start.

I said three years ago that if McCain ran for prez he'd have my vote, but when i look at his policies they just remind me to much of our current pres. He defiantely has the experiance but more tax breaks for the rich?? sorry dont understand that one seeing how the rich are investing their money in other countries instead of ours. Also tax breaks on oil companies?? Why may i ask should they get tax breaks?? On another note McCaine isnt the healthiest of people and if he suddenly dies we get stuck with Palin not just no but hell no!! She has less experiance then Obama, five kids, one with down syndrome and im a firm beleaver in family first she wont have the time if shes VP to take care of a child with that sort of disabilty then all that weight falls on her husband. She speaks and preaches abstianance but we see how far that got her Daughter, probaly should have taught her about safe sex. Ron Paul doesnt stand a chance because its about the money which he just doesnt have enough as the other two. Obama isnt much better being indecisive on key issues and some of his tax reforms are whacked. Im voteing for the lesser of two evils just like i did back in 2004, too bad my ballet and thousands of others from overseas were "lost"

Frankie Boyle on Mock the Week (British satirical comedy show): "McCain would be the only president of America in history who could be assasinated by someone bursting a paper bag near them"

McCain worries me, he seems to have a very gung-ho attitude, which isn't great for someone who could be one of the most powerful men on earth, with the potential to start some VERY big wars. The rich, and big business, are the very people that should be massively taxed, perhaps the US could use that money to fund a free health service. Without the NHS in Britain I'd very likely be dead.

I am a bit of a liberal leftie though, so I was never likely to be on the McCain train to funky town.

Edit: just found these nuggets

McCain voted 19 times against a minimum-wage increase.

Three years ago, John McCain said, "Afghanistan — we don't read about it anymore in papers because it succeeded."

"John McCain has voted with George Bush 90 percent of the time."

McCain, “voted against renewable sources of energy, against biofuels, against solar power, against wind power.... "

"Sen. McCain was already turning his sights to Iraq just days after 9/11, and he became a leading supporter of an invasion and occupation of (Iraq)."

"The legislation ... that Senator McCain supports would provide the authority for the federal government to surveille American citizens in their own country without any suspicion whatsoever that they're engaging in discussions with terrorists or about criminal activity."

John McCain opposed bankruptcy protections for families "who were only in bankruptcy because of medical expenses they couldn't pay."

McCain sought the political support of minister John Hagee, "who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church 'the Antichrist' and a 'false cult.'"

"McCain opposes a woman's right to choose."

"The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children."

McCain and Bush are millionaires who are "for tax cuts for millionaires."

John McCain and George Bush have "absolutely no plan for universal health care."

"John McCain says it's okay with him if the U.S. spends the next thousand years in Iraq."

John McCain has said the economy is "not his strong suit."

All of the above confirmed by politifact.com, an independant site.

This right here proves you understand little about the taxation system, its trends, and where either party is going with it, even in their idealized positions. If your idea of "fair taxation" is more and more burden on the middle class while the rich and corporations are encouraged to "trickle down" their savings, then you've been reading too many old Reagan speeches and not enough of the reasons why it failed the first time... and why it's failing again.

McCain's grasp of the modern world is laughable. The idea that the US can use the opening of negotiations as an incentive for reform is simply ludicrous in light of rising powers throughout the world; namely China, Russia, the EU, and Iran (in a lesser sense).

Experience is only useful if you can utilize it as a means of adapting to current trends.

John McCain is not Bush 2.0 and has not "voted with Bush 90%" of the time.

That is campaign strategy. Does no one remember just a few short months ago when McCain was reviled by the conservative elite and how many Republicans were saying they would vote for Hillary Clinton instead of him? He's never been well liked by the far-right power brokers because he wasn't hardcore enough for them and he actually did work with Democrats. This wasn't even that long ago! Until it settled in that he was their only shot at winning he was reviled.

How can McCain vote with Bush when Bush doesn't even have a vote to begin with? Just earlier this year he was being cracked for not towing the party line and voting with the Republicans enough, and now he's some sort of clone? Apparently politifact.org will print anything that has been said because much of that list is erroneous or taken out of context.

Like I said I'll probably be voting for Obama, but let's at least be honest about the candidates ffs. Whenever I hear someone parroting the Bush 2.0 drivel I wonder at what point did they stop thinking for themselves because it's laughable.

I saw a Playboy from two years ago before the elections started that listed all the Political straight shooter, the people who did what they thought was right regardless of party affiliation and the two listed at the top were John McCain and Barrak Obama.

Edit 1 for corrections, Edit 2: I can't stand Jimmy Carter. God I can't stand that idiot.

And amen on Carter; nothing has hurt the Democratic brand more than a borderline (and sometimes not-so-borderline) failure.

I guess I'm looking at his overall voting record and not just a "number is based on a 'presidential support' score from Congressional Quarterly".

Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics all over again. People can dig up this crap then they can also dig up a newspaper from, oh 4 or 5 months ago when he was being roasted for not being Republican enough.

How about factcheck.org's entry

"[McCain's Voting Record] reached a low of 77 percent in 2005. Last year it was 95 percent. By comparison, Obama's own record of supporting Bush policies has averaged slightly under 41 percent since the senator took office. However, Obama's voting record is no less partisan than McCain's. He has voted in line with his party an average of nearly 97 percent of the time. The truth is that neither candidate can claim a strong record of "breaking with his party" if Senate votes are the measure.

Emphasis mine.

True that.

Here's my scenario question for the candidates.
***Secretary Strangelove comes to the President with disturbing news. New information leads strongly to the conclusion that Iran will get the Bomb in one month. Discussions are being had on an off again on again basis (aka current). Europe is midlin supportive of sanctions (current). What do you do?

***Osama is spotted in a town in Pakistan. We can hit him potentially with a strike but its likely that over 100 civilians will be killed. A predator is standing by but if we don't take the shot in the nexct 2 minutes he will escape into the mountains. What do you do?

***Estimates are there are 12 - 20mm illegal aliens in the US. What do you do?

***Humongocorp announces it may have a vaccine for bird flu. Humoncorp will produce the vaccine but only if the US governemnt absolves it of all legal liabilities related to the research and manufacture of the vaccine. What do you do?

***Will you push for drilling on both coasts (or to permit the states to decide) as part or separate from any other portion of an energy policy?

***Do you support the right to secret ballot for whether a plant goes union?
