So I'm making a Cadians army, and since 105% of people in my area play Space Marines, I want to tailor them to fight Space Marines. I'm planning on including heavy weapons teams in my infantry squads, but I can't decide what type is best for taking out SMs (Not MSMs, although I'm not crazy about those either). It seems that mortars would be useless, but I'm not sure about the others. Autocannons would give me two shots, but wouldn't pierce their armour, while lascannons would pierce the armour, but would only give me one shot. The dilemna also includes missile launchers and heavy bolters. Please advise me.

Any other advice on making a Cadians army for taking out Space Marines is also very welcome. Thanks so much.

P.S. Would you recommend Ogryns? They seem cool, but no two web advice columns seem to agree on their usefulness.

Ok, that was kind of convoluted, let me simplify:

What Heavy Weapon would be best for taking out space marines?

Personally, I really like Missile Launchers against marines. They have decent strength against all but landradiers. If you don't have a ready vehicle target, the frag missile is good against grouped marines in cover, especially under 5E. The Heavy Bolters is also good just for number of shots + wounding on 3's.

It's certainly worth having a few Lascannons as well, for hunting the big vehicles, but I've been using ML/HB as the vast majority of my guard heavy weapons, and feel they've done the job just fine. They are also cheaper than Lascannons.

Heavy Bolters are the most cost effective for killing marines, but the missile launcher has got longer range and is better for taking out vehicles.

heavy bolter hands down. in 4th ml was better vs marines in open, more saves in 5th so hb is therefore best. the web IG list for all contingencies is something like CHQ, 20 last chancers, 30-40 sob, 3xhellhound, 3xruss. tabling list would max out on cyclops, demo squads, last chancer demo squads instead of mob, maybe demolishers over normal russ, and relies purely on killing power.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

I'd like to throw in that with new blast template rules, missile launchers become very close to heavy bolters in damage done to marines. Getting the S8 option thrown in makes them a much, much better choice than heavy bolters.
