My friend is an avid goon on somethingawful and he put me on to the thread. I just thought that it was amazing that the warhammer thread had over 400,000 views. Warhammer is more popular than I thought. DakkaDakka is also mentioned on the thread!

I generally read/lurk on the SA 40k forum threads...the occasional urge to respond to a post has ALMOST convinced me to pay for a SA membership...but not quite...yet. I also rather like the relaxed feel of the 40k thread(s) on the Penny Arcade forums.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Do you want to pay 10$ to make one post? Because I guarantee you, you will be banned immediately after making that post.

Hope you got 10$.

God I hate SA. With as much as they ban people and continue to charge them 10$ to sign up again, you'd think they could afford less ads! Or at least less obtruse ads. Bastards.

Worst 10$ I ever spent. I just did it for the torrent site...

I'm pretty sure the 2%ish ban rate is pretty not what you're making it out to be. Yeah, ban me threads exist and yes they will ban obtuse tools and flamboyant racists but if you have any measure of civility whatsoever and understand a grammer based language you should be ok.

Granted, things may have changed since my day. I haven't visited SA in well over 6 years now. So maybe the ban hammer is not thrown about nearly as much as it was. But man, back then people would just get banned for no reason at all.

Really? I've been registered since 2001, have thousands of posts and still have an active account. Methinks someone didn't read the forum rules and/or made a just plain crappy thread.

He joined up when it was all about torrents. Last I heard, there's barely anyone left who registered during ~'05 because they were pretty crappy posters.

It'd be amusing if someone complained about being banned as a helldump poster though.

I would not pay $10 for a membership. I think that is a bit much, I just find it amusing that they have such an extensive 40K/Warhammer thread.

I know that it seems silly to pay $10 just for the privilege of posting on an internet forum but with as many users as the Somethingawful forums has the $10 entry fee does a good job of letting the mods keep the riffraff in check and enforce something approaching proper grammer and the use of punctuation.

Actually, I wasn't ever banned. I never actually POSTED. As far as I know my account is still active.

I just watched from afar the stupid policies run rampant. Yay stupidity!

I am old and I understand this. Something Awful is one of the older internet forums and is full of elitist internet filth. Some of its members spend their time invading and ruining other online communities for the purposes of entertainment. 4chan prides itself on being the 'cesspit of the internet' and was formed, many years ago, when fans of pornographic Japanese cartoons split from SA amidst allegations of paedophilia and created an imageboard. Some of its members spend their time invading and ruining other online communities for the purposes of entertainment.

SA is going down the pooper because it brought in a membership fee and ban-happy moderators to weed out bad posters, which has its benefits but stifles the creativity and innovation that made that site good. 4chan is going down the pooper because anyone can post anonymously which has its benefits but has led to the site filling up with worthless spam and illegal material that could get it closed down.

I was a SA user at the time of the split and have never been banned, it isn't actually that hard. I don't visit either site much now but both seem to have plenty of 40k players. 4chan appears to be going down the pooper much faster, but maybe I am biased.
