Game 4 - Khorne Daemons vs. Ron's Daemons
The Warbringer was weary. His forces had spent a long time in real space and gorged themselves on blood and skulls. It was time to return to the warp.
The air around his forces shimmered as a rival shifted from the warp in ambush.
Army Lists
I am going to list my army on each of the battle reports for the
GT - obviously it won't change throughout, but someone who just stumbles upon one will not have to flip back and forth to figure out what I played. My opponent lists are from memory for the most part so there may be some minor discrepencies which are totally on me.

The whole game
Man, 4 awesome games against great opponents. My last game was up on table 5 so I was out of the running for really any awards so no matter what happened, assuming my opponent wasn't a total d-bag it would be awesome and I would just go with it an dlaugh. I won the roll to go first and took it. I scattered out wide to deprive Ron of any good. I got a hit for every single one of my scatters. One of my bloodcrushers took a dangerous terrain wound. When Ron came in, he also go hits for all but 1 of his units. His soulgrinder was immobilized in some woods.
My bloodthirster hopped over to hit the great unclean one and lock him in combat for a turn and draw his bloodthirster in and then my bloodcrushers would move through the ruins to take care of the plaguebearers. That was the plan anyway. I put two wounds on the great unclean one and took 3 in return (out of 4 attacks.) I failed all three invulnerable saves and then the armor save for the wound for losing combat. Sadly, the rest of the game goes that way. I am just going to do a couple of highlights (lowlights?) and some pretty pictures..
Bloodcrushers try to charge plaguebearers but end up short. I had written up a whole play by play but it really just seemed kind of whiny and doesn't do justice to how much fun I still had playing the game. At this point the result didn't really matter to me and I didn't want to get worked up over it so I just laughed a lot. It was really kind of funny.
Just look at the pretty pictures. I ended up conceding on turn 4 when my 4 bloodcrushers failed to kill 2 plaguebearers. It was obviously not going to get any better so I figured why waste any more of either of our time when we could pack up and have some kick back time before the awards ceremony.
I think that this pic is turn 3 when most of my models on the table are actually just in their trays...
After action review
Well, I knew what kind of game it was going to be when the bloodthirster failed 3 saves, lost combat by 1 and then failed that save. The dice rolls got no better. It wouldn't have mattered what army I was playing - when dice go that bad there is nothing that can be done (I have certainly had the same run of bad luck with my Templars.)
Eternal Praise
None.
Prized Skull
None. Ouch.
Eternal Damnation
My dice. I guess that they were just plum tuckered out.
Overall tourney thoughts
Overall this was a great tourney. It seemed to run very smoothly; the catered food was great, and the hotel was great. I think my only very small complaint was when they said that they had a few extra objectives for sale that they neglected to mention that it was only one per person so I was expecting my friend to get me one and then he wasn't allowed and when I got up there they had just sold their last one. I would have rushed the stage had I known - 6 would have been perfect for apocalypse games.
As I said before, my goal was to end the tourney in the top 50% of players. That last massacre really knocked my ranking down quite a bit but I still ended up 30th overall and had 2 games on the top 6 tables (and a pic with some of my models made the
GT coverage page - bloodthirster and bloodcrushers against Ultramarines from Friday!) The all Khorne list performed well as I had thought it might, but honestly it was beyond my expectations. I built my list expecting to face at least a couple of Space Marine players (of any variety) but it turned out that I didn't play against a single one. That helped to reinforce my belief in the viability of an all Khorne list - as shown at the team tourney before, Khorne absolutely owns Marines, it was the other armies I was concerned with.
Overall, Daemons were a blast to play, most of my games were quick enough to have at least 15-20 minutes before the end of the round. Typically when I leave a tourney, the trip home is filled with planning the next army for the next tourney. In this case, I was just thinking about a different Daemon list. There was no burnout, just an excitement to play more which is a sign to me that the Daemons are a good fit for me as a player. It mixes just the right amount of gambling/risk reward and tactical play.
Soooo... what is up next? Slaanesh? All fast and fragile and killy? I have a great idea for my Tzeentch basing... oh, and who could resist Papa Nurgle's sonorous call? Or perhaps, I will indulge a mix of all the above...
The Warbringer sat on his throne and divided the piles of skulls before him. He would give the most worthy as tribute to Khorne and the lesser to his minions as reward. As for S'sartan and his ilk, he would have to deal with them later. His rival had been fickle in his aid, his behavior more suitable to a follower of Slaanesh. There would be a great bloodletting. Later.
