So I was playing with a tea-cosy that a brother's girlfriend had knitted for me, and it occurred to me that it would be a good shape for a Daemon World board.

A bit of background information may be necessary to understand why I think a tea-cosy would make a great Daemon World board. I had found a knitting pattern on the intarwebz for the 3D projection of a Klein Bottle, a five-dimensional object with no real inside or outside.

A moebius strip with appropriate magnetic backing would be simpler (less calculating lines of sight in five dimensional spaces), if less entertaining. The idea basically being that a Daemon World should be a real mind-[fornication], and boards that play with the board-space would be more representative than a regular flat-board slathered in red paint and the odd copse of trees made out of the bodies of the damned.

What other ideas for Daemon World boards can people come up with? How would you execute them?

Having terrain pieces like this would start on both the mind-bender factor and the cool factor.

I'd say make a board that has 6 sections, each one has its own little deal and can be switched out without makeing any real problems with the others.

start with them all being the same size then add or subract as you desire to create hills and rivers etc. making sure that each edge is at the right height so they still connect.

lava rivers, rotting hills, you could make a dome under one section with a light that you could turn on and off and have caves on top of that.

theres a lot you could do really.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Needs more skulls, spikes and chains. And definately lava and caves.

That, and to the OP (Nurglitch), that is a cool idea. You could do lots of 3 dimensional things using the LoS rules. Basically instead of a gothic building you have some kind of hoop thing or any other shape, with "non-planar gravity". You could also make 'Cities' or other terrain-scapes on non-2D playing surface. So like a crazy non-gravity hill that arcs over the bottom. Things like that.

It would be different from any other City-fight game, just more demony.

he's reffering to the stairs in the middle of the castle, mentally just walk up them till you stop.

Yeah, I get it. Still needs more skulls, whips and chains.

One of my points in starting this thread is that the whole "Oooh, ebil skulls, whips, and chains" thing has been done to death, and it's no more unearthly or daemonic than anything else. The idea is to emphasize the otherworldy un-nature of Chaos rather than to re-tread the same old Chaos = Hot Topic.

True, but that is the motif and it does add character. Look at say the Planes of Oblivion in TES: Oblivion. Even though it is reasonably unique the skulls etc give it the right feel.

Unless you are deliberately going for a through the looking glass or the Joker's mad world of madness kind of feel.

"FOR THE ... WTF."

Couldn't you have both?

1. Demon worlds-nutty fruit cake lands
2. Other worlds or direct Realms of Big Four-exuding those characteristics. Worse to worse Tzeentch worlds would have a lot of that.

I think the nightmare before christmans might be a good inspiration for this. so would alice in wonderland.

Take dangerous amounts of LSD, eat some very strong cheese, and have the worst, most nightmarish drug trip imaginable. (Note, don't actually do this).

Seriously though, a demon world is the manifestation of emotions into a physical form. Everything on it is formed in this way. Choose an emotion, and shape the board based on that. If it's anger, then lots of red, blood, skulls, pain, death, fire etc. If it's Change, then non-euclidean geometry, broken laws of physics etc. If it's Misery, then lots of rain, grey, tears, etc etc.

A demon world board is your invitation to go nuts. So go nuts.

The idea of you playing (a game) with a teacozy on your head is gonna stick with me for some time.

In the absence of non-Euclidean gaming tables, you might have to resort to some really bizarre special rules. Things like:
1. Ignore TLOS. Equivalent of psychic power test to determine LOS (because a leadership test can't kill you ).
2. Replace base movement of 6" with 2D6-1". Recalculate all movement (including vehicles) as a multiple of the base movement.
3. Demons have to deploy like regular troops. EVERYBODY ELSE has to use the demonic assault rules.

Or would that just be too random?

A world-board such as you propose would create some logistial issues with moving models around on it! Magentic perhaps?

Otherwise rules could be used to simulate the unusual dimensions.

What about a hypercube-like board. A series of 2' square platforms linked together in an unusual fashion?

MAKE OF THIS WHAT YOU WILL, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN THE END NO MATTER WHAT!

Games Workshop has some interesting articles on making daemon worlds terrain when the website isn't malfunctioning. I particularly like the tzeentch floating rocks.

I fear that the redesign which afflicts the American site has finally spread to the UK site. :( But they did have some nice ideas which weren't all skulls and spikes.
