Has anybody played this game? I like the idea, and it doesn't seem to require too many models to get going. I'm hesitant to spend £30+ on the rulebook if it's a system that is regarded poorly by the general gaming community.

Thoughts?

Actually me and friend picked up the game and had a blast, its a fun game you can play in a short amount of time, 2 fighters v 2 fights can last around 15-20 minutes and its pretty fun. Best way to play we found was always to play a mission, AI is not a just kill game. 2-3 fighters 1-2 Anti aircraft units and a transport and you should be able to play all the good missions or make up your own. Larger games however (10+ planes a side) gets really confusing and can become quite boring quite fast.

Might be a good idea to split on the book with a friend and each pick up a fighter pack and try it out.

actually me and a freind picked up the game about a year ago and are well into our first campaign. The game is extrememly quick and easy to learn, less than an hour, and you can then start adding in additional rules to make the game more interesting and tactical.

If you like a VERY tactical game, AI is for you. you really have to think about how your going to move and your opponent is going to move, but ive found that it is best not to overthing, it just takes to much time, and your can never really be sure anyway. small games are pretty quick, but larger games can take awhile to do (3-4 hours).

the system is also designed for comebacks and destruction. Ive played games where it looked like i had no chance and still won.

the campaign system is 1 vs 1, so its easy to find some1 to play against for it, and a campaign for a larger group could easily be fudged.

i would definately split the book and pick up some fighters and give it a try. I love the game!

The Warp

I have just started playing around with AI and would echo the other comments. The planes can be a little pricey (it is FW, after all) but they are pretty nice. Of course, you can always split the book with someone and play around with some scratch built fighters and the special bases to get a feel for it.

Go buy Wings of War instead, and put AI models on top of the cards. Cheaper and more fun (IMO).
