I--is it just me, or is the information arrangement in the new codex effin awful!
I mean, do any of you people out there like having to flip all all over the place just to look at the info on your Land Raider or what have you? If I am looking at the page of info on saaaay, a Predator, or a Terminator, shouldn't ALL the relevant information be on THAT page? If I want to read about a models special abilities, I have to flip back to the fluff page. And what's this "see page ?? for details" garbage? JUST FREAKIN PASTE IT IN THERE AGAIN! If a model has "Power of the Machine Spirit", just put the information there again. What's the big deal? If it's a page count issue, then remove some of the fluff and useless pics. I've seen enough versions of well-painted dreadnoughts to last me a life-time. Don't get me wrong, I like the story oriented information, it adds depth, but not at the expense of the usability of the book. There is enough flipping going on during the game as is. For the love of god don't these people have an R&D department?
It's basic stuff really.

This isn't the first codex to do this. I think GW expects gamers to read and be real familiar with their codexes. However, I know, and myself included, a ton of players who play multiple armies, and may not play an army for a number of months and forget, so I know where your comming from brother.

DA 3rd Co. w/duelwing 6000+ pts
Mostly tanks 2000+ pts
Ultras 3rd Co and 1st Co. 7000+ pts
Harald Deathwolf's Co. 7000+ pts
4000+ pts (Daemonhunters)
Kabal of the Hydra 5000+ pts
Skullrippa'z Freebootaz 6000+ pts
Plague Marine Force 2000+ pts
and not finished until I own some of every army

The constant page references are because GW know's it's own proof reading is terrible, so rather than reprint rules and inevitably get the wrong, they have it in one place, so there's one definitive source. This is fine, unless you're actually using the codex, in which case it's time consuming. I'd have much rather they, i dunno, spent more than five minutes reading the codex before printing it.

Secondly, they seem to have two sections in the rules - one for fluff/in game rules, and one for in game wargear/army list building. The problem there being that while you're playing a game, you havw to keep flipping backwards and forwards to see what stuff a model has, and then what that stuff actually does. Which is ludicrous. Would it have killed them to have three sections? A page on fluff, a page with the complete rules listing for each unit including all points values, rules (no page references!) and profile, and then finally a third section with a summary of points and equipment for army building purposes.

I think it's because even GW realize they're not competent enough to put the exact same thing on multiple pages - that, or they realize their customers need to be treated like children when it comes to simple wording inconsistencies that people will jump on for any advantage, no matter how small. (seriously, feth RAW; but that's a different topic...) Either way, the end result is the same - it's very obvious what everything does granted you manage to find the thing in the book and that definition is reasonably coherent and airtight in the first place (which one shouldn't count on )
Anyway, I think it's stupid too; I much preferred the old 3rd Ed format, and it's not just because that's what I started with. I have a couple friends jealous of my old 48-pg codex's layout. What bugs me most though is when things like what the different Falcon upgrades do or what an Epistolary even is are hidden in a wall of text. gak GW, an indentation and a little bold never hurt anyone. I shouldn't have to read the whole fething Falcon entry in the middle of game just to find out what exactly 'random-ass-pointy-ear-hokey-sci-fi-gimmick-#6' does.

I am reminded of the 4e definition of the AP1 weapon versus Skimmers Moving Fast, which was mathematically precise in its definition, but most players couldn;t understand it or thought it was wrong, and eventually an FAQ was produced to make the rule play differently. This illustrated that when GW try to write watertight rules, they fail utterly.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Just wanna point out this was discussed for 3 pages here:

And I agree 100%, even the 4th edition books were far, far better.

Sorry man, I searched before I posted, didn't see that one!

When I picture a book that would serve the immediate needs of a person playing such a game, it has almost schematic-like artwork with ALL the stats and info on THAT page with some cool callouts as to what weapon does what etc. If they ARE assuming that a person buying this book is already familiar with the product, then thats just bad marketing. But that point is moot seeing how this codex changed some rules and added stuff.

Anywho, I'll go check out the other thread, perhaps I am babbling comments that have been said already.
