I heard a rumor a while back that Warhammer historical wargaming is to release a World WarI game, and it occurs to me that this branch of GW is slowly creeping forward in time period. Does this mean WWII soon, then Vietnam, on into the Cold War?

How cool would it be to play a 1850pt US Marine Corps VS Spetznaz detachment in the ruins of west Berlin?

I think 40K would work fine for WW1. Once you get to WW2 it starts to break down a bit. The general "picture" of WW1 combat (whether accurate or not) is of men going over the top in an attempt to assault a position.

By WW2 this changed. Tactics evolved. There was more emphasis on squad level maneuver and prepatory/supporessive fire. 40K does not handle this well at all. There is no mechanic for suppression by basic weapons (that was the job of the LMG team after all).

The need to add this important part of infantry combat would require a substantial rewrite I'd think.

No mechanic for supression? -pinning. Just bring back overwatch, de-emphasize close assault- and your' done.

Morale would be a bigger part of the game I think.
