i really love the model and i'm 99% sure of getting it, even if its just for painting and displaying purposes ^^
still is he usefull in a fun or even competetive game? is anyone playing him at all?

I think he's overpriced. He's a better value in 5th edition, I think, as 14 AV is a little more robust, but he's still too expensive.

If you KNEW you were playing a certain opponent, he might be useful (say, to shield units from ork lootas), but in an all-comers list, problem not a good choice.
