Well tonight was an interesting game. The mission was Capture and Control [the 2 objective mission, I think that's the name, one in each deployment zone] and the setup was Table Quarters [whatever that's called now].

Heavy Support
3 Obliterators - 225

Setup:

The board was set up by the players at the table adjacent to us, and it was fairly sparse featuring a lot of razorwire and tank traps on my corner, and a few hills on his. He was in the "top left" from me, and thus I was in the "bottom right". Keep in mind it's table quarters and I'll try to use those guidelines just mentioned to describe positions. In the center of the board was a large hill with a 3-story building on it.

Deployment:
He put his havocs at about top center, with a squad of plaguemarines nearby in their rhino. On the south side of his deployment zone [remember from my point of view] he put a squad of plaguemarines with the squad of CSM. His lash princes were right at the edge of his zone on the 12" from the center marker. He kept one plaguemarine squad back on his objective, about 12" further back from his main fighting line. He opted to deepstrike his oblits. I set up with the two meltagun CSM squads interspersed between the noisemairine squads, with daemon princes behind them taking cover. My oblits I deployed far back in my zone, and My objective was close behind my battle line.

Turn 1:
He moved up quickly, driving two plaguemarine rhinos around the sides of the central building and popping smoke. His havocs moved forward, so that they would be able to shoot more targets next turn. He flew his daemon princes to level 2 and 3 of the building and tried to lash my obliterators, but was out of range.

I advanced with my rhinos and laid a clever trap. I unloaded my two CSM squads behind their rhinos so that his own rhino-borne squads wouldn't be able to shoot them and used my noisemarine rhinos to block LOS on the edges in case his obliterators came down or his havocs tried to shoot them. I lashed one of his daemon princes forward, then tried again to bring him into assault range of both my daemon princes as well as more than 40 bolter shots....and the little git rolled double 6's on his psychic test, leaving his prince to laugh at me. Oblits shot at a rhino with no effect.

Turn 2:
All 6 of his obliterators arrive. One unit appears behind my lines, scattering a little closer. The next goes for "top right" of the board in the uncontested table quarter. His daemon prince flies back to its perch on the second story and the pair lashes the CSM squads into better firing positions while the plaguemarines mount the hill in their rhinos, moving only 6" to get good shots. They succeed in annihilating two rhinos, leaving the tactical squad behind it vulnerable. The havocs ripped into them, killing 5. The obliterators behind my lines shot at one of my daemon princes, while the others shot my obliterators with lascannons, killing 2.

I received my 6-man terminator squad, which dropped down right in front of my battle line. Those that had left their rhinos the turn before mounted back up, moving 6" so they could fire their guns. One rhino, loaded with noisemarines, disgorged them and waited while a squad of CSM loaded up, then moved off. One prince advanced while my single remaining obliterator and the other daemon prince turned around and headed for his obliterators that had appeared behind me. When the dust settled from all my meltaguns, one rhino had its bolter removed, two others were immobilized and one of those lost a weapon as well. Nothing popped. I lashed his havocs back behind the hill they had started near, and they failed their pinning test. I assault the obliterators with my daemon prince and the obliterator and kill one.

Turn 3:
His plaguemarines stay in their armoured pillboxes and fire at my terminators, who then get lashed backwards twice but pass their tests. His CSM rhino backs away from my advancing noisemarines that had tried unsuccessfully to krak grenade it the turn before, shooting them. The rhino holding his objective abandons it to move forward, thinking it may need to assist once my terminators began dropping. In the end I lost three of the 6 terminators and a couple noisemarines, and finished off his obliterator in his assault phase. He immobilized my rhino trying to go around the flank.

I received both remaining units of terminators. The one with only flamers took the risk and deepstruck near the havocs, while the only other servicable combi-melta in my army teleported in from an icon next to the CSM tank that was on the left side. Everything moved up. The dwindled CSM squad unloaded from their immobilized rhino to try to pop the freshly arriving plaguemarine rhino as the noisemarines moved to assault it if need be. The double-lashed terminators advanced at full speed, ready to charge some immobile rhinos. Originally planning to lash the havocs into nice flamer template formation for the deepstriking terminators, I rolled higher than expected, bringing them past the terminators and into formation for one of my doomsirens. With one shot, 9 Havocs died. The remaining member was assaulted and killed. The remaining terminators from the large squad charged a rhino and tore it apart, while my meltaguns managed to scrape the other gun off the second plaguemarine rhino on the hill, leaving it completely stripped bare. The meltagun that had dropped down failed to do anything significant, and again my krak grenades did little.

Turn 4:
He advanced his obliterators in the corner forward, and lashed my CSM melta squad over to them to get killed - which they did. The plaguemarines that had just been ejected from their vehicle moved and assaulted the noisemarines that just wiped out the havocs. The CSM squad in the invincible rhino backed away again and shot at terminators. The remaining pillbox on the hill shot the terminators that just assaulted their brother rhino, killing two more and leaving only the chainfist. The other daemon prince lashed my recently arrived flamer/melta terminators away from the center towards the "south", and they failed their pinning test. His 3rd plaguemarine squad shot my flamer terminators, killing 1, and they failed their morale test and fell back.

I finally manage to pop the second Plaguemarine rhino, spilling its squad, thanks to my single surviving obliterator. A quick lash of submission and they were now in doomsiren range of my one noisemarine squad that had remained back to go for my own objective. The prince that lashed them had moved down to assault them as well afterwards, and the obliterator was now in assault range of the unit that had popped out of the transport he'd blown up - thank you 5th edition! On the far left, my other CSM unit finally found its mark and blew up the enemy CSM rhino. A doomsiren later and only a few members stood. I charged them with the noisemarines, but failed to do much damage. The remaining chainfist terminator and my other daemon prince charged into the plaguemarine squad on the north side that had my noisemarines there down to a single man. The noisemarine died, but he lost 3 of his remaining plaguemarines. On the south side, the daemon prince and obliterator assault destroyed the plaguemarines down there. The biggest highlight of this turn was my northernmost immobilized rhino repairing itself! Finally! I never make that roll!

Turn 5, final turn:
His 3rd plaguemarine rhino backed away, holding onto his objective. His daemon princes came out of cover and charged my rearguard noisemarine rhino, blowing it sky high. In the assault phase the last surviving member of his CSM squad managed to stay alive, and his obliterators moved to take potshots at my last terminator, missing their marks.

I moved my rearguard noisemarine squad towards my own objective, away from his daemon princes. Running to get the extra movement to take me onto it, the freshly re-mobilized rhino turned and drove to block LOS to the noisemarines from the approaching obliterators. My daemon princes moved back and charged his daemon princes, to keep them from flying over to get a draw if the game went on to turn 6. On the left side my chainfist terminator charged his final plaguemarine rhino, while my CSM squad moved up to shoot it. Their rhino drove alongside his, getting within 3" of the objective to contest it. In the assault phase the daemon princes slapped each other a bit while my CSM squad charged his rhino to krak it. They succeeded, wrecking it and spilling the noisemarines, but there was nothing more they could do. When the dice came up a 2, I was controlling my objective and contesting his.

Yeah, good report.
DPs are vulnerable these days as they cannot be fully hidden behind Rhinos. Have you thought about Sorcerers with flight, initially joining Obliterator squads?

Waaaay too expensive and not durable at all. And in an obliterator squad that's asking for it. Torrent of Fire would see the sorcerors taking hits immediately, and I prefer to deepstrike my obliterators usually.

Plus Lash when in a unit is severely limited.

1) You can only shoot at what you lash, and lash what the unit shoots at

2) You measure all ranges at the same time, so you can't actually Lash someone from further away towards you and into a flamer template - you fire them both "at the same time". You need a separate lash to really capitalize on template weapons.

Also, my army needs counter-assault, and that's what the princes are. Since everything is immune to instant death, the sorcerors' force weapons are limited in usefulness.

Spellbound, you are right. But I saw a guy playing this.
How about the durability of the DP when he can be targeted from everywhere (as he can be seen behind a Rhino)?
Moreover, the DP is just footslogging. Never tried a DP without wings.

The durability of the DP is not high because he limits what can shoot him.

The durability of the DP is high because it's got 4 wounds at T5, can't be instakilled, and can get cover saves from said rhinos and most good terrain. With the cover save that's 8 wounds, statistically, that need to be done to him with heavy weapons. That'd probably kill a lot more marines, and he's not even a scoring unit. Moreover, those heavy weapons could be spent killing my tanks, which give my army far more mobility and killing power than the DP actually does.

Basically they're decoys. With very annoying abilities. And joining a sorceror to Oblits, please. Now anytime my oblits shoot a tank I lose lash completely! Awesome! ...no. A havoc squad with 4 heavy bolters? Yeah maybe. But then I don't have something walking along beside me ready to help my guys out against a dreadnought or handily solo some small assault unit.

Wings, yeah, I'd like to have them. But sometimes the points don't play out that way.
