Hi there, for my SM army I'm wanting to create a Uber HQ charactor that is extremely powerful and potent to use in my army for games of around 2500pts or higher. (anything less than that I use basic standard charactors in the HQ section)
What I'm wanting to know is wether the setup I give him is good or wether for the price I'm paying for him and his abilities, if I should just use one of the named charactors instead such as Siciaus(as the two are similar)
This is what I plan to equip him as
Chapter Master with Artificer Armour, jump pack, aux grenade launcher, boltgun, hellfire shells, relic blade. Approx value 220pts
My army compliment would be similar to this
1x Chapter Master (see above)
1x Chaplain (jump pack)
3x Dreadnought (lascannon, cc claw)
2x 10Tactical (1 missile, 1 powerfist)
1x 10Scout (9sniper, 1 missile)
2x 10Assualt marine (1 powerfist)
1x landspeeder (2 multimelta)
2x landspeeders (1 typhoon missiles)
2x Predator (autocannon only no sponson)
1x 10Devastator (2 lascannon, 1 missile, 1 plasma)
EDIT: The third dread will have 2x autocannons

In addition, both my charactor (known as Hells Guardian duh  ) and the Chaplain will be joined to the two assualt marines squads.
(I'm tempted to use Shrike and Sicaius to make use of the infiltrate abilities of both charactors..... hhmm two infiltrating assualt marine squads?)

i'd drop the boltgun and the grenade launcher, no point in keeping them if you want him to get into combat. i would use a lighting claw instead of a relic blade as well, being able to re-roll to wound is worth the 25 points it costs.

I would keep the grenade launcher but lose the bolter. The launcher can be fixed to his shoulder or wrist, it doesn't deny you your +1A for two combat weapons (if you took Boltpistol/Powerfist or Dual LCs), and it lets you fire a Blast weapon right before assaulting.

Well, I'd take a Commander with terminator armor, thunder hammer, storm shield leading a 10 Assault Termies with 7 thunder hammers and 3 twin lightning claws. This is a perfect shock and awe unit.

If you've got an abundance of thunderhammers, giving your commander one more or less wastes his high initiative value. Relic Blade + Halo will achieve much the same thing but also let you mow down a couple more guys before they attack back.

Yes, I'm trying to maximise his shooting ability, his CC ability and allowing him to remain viable. (ie, not having a 300pt model vapourised in a single shot)
Guess they've made this dex well balanced to stop you being able to do that, make him shooty or assualty, but not both.
If I give him the hellfire, allowing him to Hit on a 2+ and wound on a 2+ then he can't assualt and also can't benefit from having 2cc weapons as boltgun is a two handed weapon
I can give him a bolt or plasma pistol instead of the boltgun (as per the general concensus here) so that he can still shoot and assualt. I'll just have to live with not having the extra attack with the relic blade due to it being two handed.
(If I do the above I'll mod a boltgun to look like a plasma pistol with joined aux launcher, possibly with a mini chainsaw underslung for asthetics (gears of war anyone?))

Think this still looks nice, but I can take Sicarius for a little less with different adv and disadv to my idea. So its a tough choice.
