Hey guys,

So I play Renegade/Lost and Damned Guard, and what caught my attention was the fact that in the new IA book there was a Renegade Army List.

Could anyone tell me if it's worth buying this book over?

I could care less if it is underpowered, but I definitely don't want to buy it if they're overpowered. Then again it is FW we're talking about.

Just would like to get your guys' thoughts on it!

Thanks,
Vlad

Most FW stuff is overpriced to prevent them from being over powered. I don't own Siege of Vraks II but I do own the first one and for the most part it's just the guard list with doctrines made up to flavor renegades better.

It's also a great way to get yourself some ideas for your own Renegade army, thematically.

The Army list is basically just an IG army from the standard codex with a few extra units:

HQ
  • Exalted Champion of Khorne (minor CSM IC)

  • Company Command Platoon, w/Fire Support, Anti-Tank & Mortar squads (standard IG)

  • Enforcers (standard Commissars)

  • Preachers (standard Priests)

  • ELITES
  • disciples of Xaphan (basically IG vets)

  • Khorne Bezerkers (from CSM list but may take a Dreadclaw if 10 models or less)

  • Ogryn Bezerkers (FNP Ogryns with D6 attacks that can wound themselves each round of combat)

  • TROOPS
  • Militia Platoon (standard IG Platoon)

  • Armored Fist squad (standard IG)

  • Mutant Rabble (basically IG Conscripts)

  • Militia Platoon (standard IG Platoon)

  • Beastman Attack squad (10-20 model unit of: BS2,T4,Ld6,6+ Save, Furious Charge, 6 point Guardsmen w/ 2 CC weapons that can regroup even under 50% and can upgrade to a lasgun for +1 point per model)

  • FAST ATTACK
  • Hounds of Xaphan (3 Hounds, 1 Ogryn Handler. Infantry with Fleet and Fearless for 65 points total. Hounds have Space Marine stats with 2 Wounds, 2 Attacks, a Ld of 5 and no armor)

  • Sentinel Squad (standard IG Sentinel)

  • Hellhound (standard IG Hellhound)

  • Salamander Scout (standard IG Salamander)

  • HEAVY SUPPORT
  • Tank (all the normal IG tanks from the codex plus all the IA Russ variants)

  • Close Support Artillery (IG Basilisk, Griffon, Medusa, Manticore, Hydra and Bombard)

  • Weapon Platform (IG Earthshaker, Medusa, Hydra platforms)

  • Hell Blade (IA Chaos Flyer)

  • Hell Talon (IA Chaos Flyer)

  • Turret Emplacement (IG IA Emplacements)

  • Artillery Strike (Bombard, Manticore, Basilisk, Griffon or Mortar strike that rolls for reserves and once available hits a spot within LOS of any model with a Vox caster and keeps hitting that spot the rest of the game, but always scatters either 2D6" for a hit or 2D6x2" for a miss)

  • SUPER HEAVY DETACHMENTS
  • Malcador (any variant) (IG IA Super-Heavy)

  • Gorgon (IG IA Super-Heavy)

  • Baneblades, Shadowswords, Stormblades or Stormswords (IG IA Super-Heavy)

  • Macharius (IG IA Super-Heavy)

  • So overall the only real new units are the 'hounds of Xaphan' and the 'Beastmen'.

The biggest issue with the list is that they stuck with the random Ld mechanic from IA5 which means for most of your units you have to find out what their Ld value is the first time they have to test on it in the game (4+D6). Not only does this make the army incredibly unpredictable but it is also a giant pain as you have to keep track of which units have what Ld for the rest of the battle (not fun at all)!
