Recently, I just played a decetn 1750 point game with a librarian and a sternguard squad. it was captur and control, and he left one troop choice and a big ol chaos walking thing (name is on the tip of my tongue...). realizing this, i took my sterngaurd and my librarian and circuited them. form my spearhead quarter, I gate of infinitied down the edge and down the side (which sounds extremely risky, i know but it worked) my plan was to have him meet up with scout bikers, and without scattering with the beacon, secure that objective.
i acconplished this task by teleporting then running, and i thought how this would look in action. in the midst of spraying bullets, and explosions, and even combats right there, a librarian and retinue are just appearing (like the movie jumper, if you've seen it) while running full sprint, then two seconds later they port of and reappear, running farther up. It gets cooler when bikers are turbo boosting along side them for the final stretch and keeping pace.
In my head, that sounds like a really cool moment in space marine history.

With that in mind, I was wondering if anyone else had any cool momnets ina table top game that would translate to cool action pieces in a movie or something. It can be funny hilarity, like a single scout firing into rear armor and exploding, or some really cool action piece, like a bunch of scouts bludgeoning their way through the initial wave of thirty orks (will elaborate as it is awesome). I just thought it would be cool for people to read this thred and imagine these very cool moments as an extension to the cool backdrop of this awesome universe, rather then a bunch of figures falling over uncannily bumpy ruins.

PS. lengthy descriptions are preffered, as long as they set a cool mood or backdrop to base the event around.

Another Post (cool story)

I have another cool event i wanted to post real quick. against a friend, I played marines and he played orks. it was dawn of war so i decided to set up two scout troops after he set up a wagon full of boys and a warboss. there is a standard hill in the midle of my deployment edge, which blocks LOS, but is where my objective was. he marches his orks forward and drives up real close. I walk up the hill a little. turn two, he assualts 20 scous with a full 32 orks (12 in truck and 20 running alongside.

nothing of mine comes in, so i am pissed.

I think im dead now, but my scouts survive the first wave, then win the second round in my assualt phase and massacre both orcs with the two squads (they were seperate combats kind of).
his third turn and he sets up mor boys within his zone, along with his heavy support and what not with troops choices right on the other side of the hill

then the cinematic thing happens. my turn three, my scouts move over the hill, crease the top, while everything else come in. two tanks drive up alongside the bloodied scouts (all five of them). while three squads of terminators teleport alongside the scouts with teleport homers, and two vangaurd squads land almost and right on target right in front of the orks. can you say ciiema.

right there, with 5 guys on the board at the beginning of the turn, the scouts crease the hill top. they scan the battlefield, and see an entire almost entire 2000pt of orks looking at them, with 60 boyz charginf up the hill straight towards them. the scouts all look tensed and unprepared for the ork tide, but the scout sergeant squints his eyes, and pulls out a teleport homer. he clicks it on, yells "bring it" and throws it into the ground at his feet. suddenly, three dazling flashes appear, and 15 terminators are suddenly on the horizon of the hill next to the scout sergeant. A thunderhawk flies low over head, and two full 10 man squads of vanguard crash down in front of the orks, leaving impact craters where they land. two rhinos bumble over the hill, and pedro cantor looks out the razorback hatch, and over the vox he says "kill them". and a dazzling display of firepower is unleashed, while the vnaguard slice through the orks.

one of the only times i used raptors(when i played chaos obviously) it was funny and awesome all rolled into one. it was a squad of 5 raptors with the 6th being an aspiring champion. they first dive into combat with a 5 man tactical squad and totally destroyed them. then i moved them into cover to get into range of one of the SM devastator squads. that round they were shot at by the heavies and with the cover saves all passed like badasses. next movment phase they pounce on the 1st devastator squad and again tore them apart. now they were out in the open for the second devastator squad ( on a building top) to shoot down. but they only lost 2 raptors. not a problem since 4 raptors and easily beat the poop out of marines! now all 4 jump up to the top of the bulding. I rolled a difficult terrain test, 3 failed and then failed the damn saves! so literally 3 raptors forgot how to jump and were squashed into the side of the building. leaving only the champion to take on the devastators. he missed all his attacks and was killed the next turn.
that would make for some funnyness. he prolly was beat over the head with a broken lascannon

I really like this thread. Reminds me of a game I had of Orks vs Orks.

A deff fread had just skorcha'd and ripped up a mob of slugga boys, ending up near a ruin, where the kommandoz were hiding, up on the first storey.

"Stay low ladz" grunted the kommando 'sarjant'. "and don't move till I do." Wiv his orky kunnin, he knew what to do, he'd seen many dreds before and knew their weakness. Steadying himself, he edged up to the window, gripping his big choppa with both hands.

"WAAAGH!" he leapt from the upper window, raising his choppa as he flew through the air. His two heavy boots clanged as they hit the top of the ork war machine. The dreds arms flailed in confusion just before the choppa came crashing through its top hatch. As the metal giant fell over, the sarjant jumped to the ground and looked back at his squad, just making their way from the ruin.

"Now dat's how you deal wiv a deff dred." He said, his orky chest filling with pride.

It was a bit of a fluke game wise, but that's why we play using dice isn't it?

in an apocalypse match, 3 to a side, there were alot of models on the table...huge chaos army, up against my marines and some IG, at any rate, my marines were up the back behind a huge wall, providing 'fire support' which translated to the other guys on my team making me stay back (i was a noob back then) just behind my marines were a squad of IG cavalry...anyway, one of the powers chosen was one that allowed the other side (chaos) to delpoy his troops on any point around the board after the game had started, at the time i thought nothing of it but when he utilised the power.....just read

"Markus looked up, there was a faint disturbance far to his right, a slight movement among the rocks. He dismissed it, thinking it was just another of the large predators on Praxis Prime, besides, they were in the midst of a battle against the traitors, the scum of the universe. The battle was not going well, the Guard had been sent ahead as a way to divert the attentions of the traitors, drawing their fire, Markus and his marines were making ready to charge over the wall to come to the aid of the beleaguered veterans in a trench and to meet up with the terminators when, glancing to his right again Markus' eyebrow raised a fraction, the slightest amount of surprise showing as there, charging towards them was 30 chain axe wielding insane troops baying for the blood of his men. Markus did what he had been trained for his adult life, he levelled his bolt-pistol, barked out an order and fired, again and again into the mass of enemies, but it was no use, these troops were the elite of the foul heretics and not one fell out of the whole charge, the hateful beings then hit their line like a rhino plowing into a mud building, crashing through, swinging their axes left and right, the teeth screaming through necks, limbs and even ceramite plated torsos, reaping a deadly toll among the overwhelmed marines. Markus fought as best he could, blocking left and right with his chainsword but never scoring a direct hit, he screamed to his brothers to fall back just as he felt an axe smash into his side and another crush his leg. Bleeding in the name of his cause Markus looked up to see a line of charging rough riders hit the flank of the berserk troops, their lances killing precious few, until they too were overwhelmed, Markus felt his life fading, dying in the knowledge he had failed his Emperor."

so yeah, i hate khorne berserkers now

1vs1vs1 With me playing Marines vs Chaos and Tau

My Assualt squad with attached Chaplain Jumppacker made short work of a Tau Fire Warrior team in cc that left my marines out in the open.

The chaos player unloaded a world of hate against my team and killed all but two marines.

The Tau player took his turn and managed to kill the last two assualt marines and knock the Chaplain to his final wound.

I moved my Chaplain but it wasn't enough. Over the next two player turn my opponents hit the Chaplain with two lascannons and a railgun. They all hit and they all wounded. The Chaplain made a save on each hit scored and stood firm. On my the last turn of the game the Chaplain proceeded to assualt a nearby Fire Warrior team and kicked a full asses.

Those were good times ....

The Gating squads with bikes alongside does sound really, really cool.....

Another cinematic sequence I can imagine is a Helmet-cam view of a fleeting assault Terminator disembarking from a land raider into urban style terrain. Picture the assault ramp clanging open and then a dozen absolutely enormous soldiers pouring out at full sprint, literally running through walls to come to grips with the enemy. It'd be like Nascar + NFL + MMA, in space, only way cooler.

While my warphead was fleeing off the table, he decided to turn around at the last second and blow a monolith into pieces.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

one of my favorite moments...

had an Ork WB and Nobs ripping through a bunch of space Marines, just crushing them. Basically The Land Raider they were next too opened up and a squad poped out armed with flamers and cooked my boyz good.

I was pretty sad about the loss, but what a classic moment, just imagine the looks on my Boyz face from victory to defeat in like moments.

Had just finished my Converted ork warboss on bike (ZOMG!!) and played against some IG. He bombs straight up the middle of the table to some guard behind an earth ramp and takes a terrain test.
And fails miserably.
I like to think he rode up this huge earth ramp and crashed into the church nest to it. Epic fail.

Aaaaahh....caffiene

Piercing the heavens

Actually, these moments are what I love the most about 40k.
Also, most of these moments usually have to do with my Warboss. Something like...
The heat of battle was at it's peak, as Korrag Bugsmasha, also know as the Iron Fist, led the charge against the enemy commander. Space Marines and Ork Nobz fought eacht other to the death, when Korrag saw his target: sweeping from the sky, a Space Marine on some sort of flying bike, a glowing sword in his hand. The Ork Warlord braced himself for the impact as he let a muscle in his arm twitch and his power fist began humming.
The Space Marine on the Jetbike went down, but he couldn't wound the Ork, his blows paried by the giant metal fist and the Ork's helmet which looked like he ripped it straight off a Tyranid creature. Korrag smiled, reached up with his power fist, grabbed the passing vehicle at it's rear and smashed into the ground behind him with one swoop. Then he lifted it up again, threw him over his head just to smash him back on the ground again. He rammed his choopa into the ground and lit his cigar again, with a piece of burning wood from the wasted battlefield.
It was a good day to be an Ork.

If he's fighting on foot, he usually does something resembling a Sho-ryu-ken

In your base, killing your dudes

It was Tau v Marines in a small 1,000 objective match. (any unit could hold an objective in this match)

I had two tac squads with a Plasma cannon and flamer in each. This was the first time I ever used a gets hot weapon in my army. My first marine fired......had it overload and kill him......

Im still keeping them as the other one wiped out half a squad of fire warriors

That and my Captain, chaplin, and command squad cut through 20 kroot.

---Captain Altanis watched as the Kroot gathered up the wounded guardsmen who had taken shelter in the forest. "Brother Captain," said the squads apothecary "I would say that those guardsmen won't be alive much longer with those xenos." As though to prove his point one of the kroot lept upon one of the guardsmen and began to feed upon him. "I would say so brother apothecary," Altanis said as he felt his battle lust rising, "Charge brothers! Slaughter the filth!". The command Squad charged over the icy field and in to the forest. Raising his shield Altanis deflected the hasty shots of the startled kroot. Then they were upon them. Wielding his honor blade in one hand, Altanis cut through the Kroot with rightous zeal. Nearby Chaplin Gavil bellowed the Litanies of Hate as his crozarius burned with deadly power. The kroot held but the brothers of the aegis would not be denied. The haze of his bloodlust fading Altanis turned from his latest victim and returned to the squad. "Secure the area brothers the enemy is still nearb---" Two plasma shots burned through the forest and struck two of the marines who fell without a sound. Anger filled Altanis as he heard the sounds of more Kroot approaching. Vengence would be his."

My friend and his blasted commander with plama gun killed two of my marines . but I got him back

Doesn't matter what it is or what it is intended to do. If you add a chainsaw to it then it is instantly better!

my Guard veteran sergeant who led his squad in a flank attack against a chaos army and managed to take on a unit of chosen and then kill a Defiler and then had to fight to his death as he and what was left of his squad got destroyed by a unit of chaos marine and still managed to kill 5.

i just imagine him stnaidn gin there with the power sword just Scream at his men to hold their ground to the last

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Nothing like gating a techmarine, libby, cassius and an assault sqaud with flamers right infront of two necron warrior squads. If ever I've seen fear on their faces it was at that moment as four flamers hit them followed by the libby's AP3 flamer and a few pistol shots for good measure. Not much was left after that ordeal. And those that did ran as fast as possible or teleported through a monolith only to take it all again in the face the next turn.

The Devilfish hovered low over the forest, its rear door clunking open with a whine from the pnumatics but not quite touching the ground, a sign of an exprienced pilot. If the craft landed it would be at risk for land mines and booby traps laid by the skilled Catchan LARPs.

A squad of firewarriors disembarked with military precison, fanning out 360 to cover all the approaches, but they didn't see the quiet rustle as something moved in the undergrowth.

One warrior saw the det pack as it sailed out over his head towards the Devilfish. His warningshout drowned in the explosion as the pack landed in the between the engine struts. Shrapnel and pressure flattened the warriors, but Sly Marbo didn't wait for them to recover. Qucik as a viper he was on them, his powersword carving out their insides.

But even as they lay dying, the Tau saw their Chaos allies coming to avenge them. With a roar nearly as loud as their bikes engines, Khorne bezerkers charged Sly, but the human was unfazed and he cut the trators down without a second glance.

However, Sly would not leave the job unfinished. Still covered in the blue blood of the Tau and the black of the chaos trators he charged at a nearby Obliterator, his sword slicing off its arm. However that wound woudn't stop the demonic behemoth who backhanded Sly with such force that he lay stunned and unconcious until the 38th took the position two days later.

I remember my first ever game of 40k, i was just getting into the hobby and i didn't know what to start with so the dude that worked in the local gw took me through a halve hour noob battle, i can tell you that i have never seen anything like that ever since.

Well i didn't know what the 2 sides were back then but now i can say, ok i decided to use the shops IG display force, a command squad, 2 ten man infantry squads and a catachan pattern sentinal. The dude i was playin used an eldar force consisting of a squad of 10 blue infantry, 10 red infantry and a green commander(no idea of what they are even now). The board we were playin on was a winter board with lots of bumpy and hilly terrain, there was only a small area of flat area that formed a road leading to a small out post .

Right well the deployment saw me place the command squad, the sentinal and one of the 10 man squads behind the outpost on my edge of the board and the second 10 man squad directly oppersite them on the high ground on the opposite end of my deployment zone. My opponent placed his commander into the blue squad infront of the out post whilst the red squad deployed directly opposite me second infantry squad up on the high ground.

With deployment done my opponenent tells me the objective is to kill the others force, with the mission set the game started off with me moving my command squad round the side of the outpost to try and intercept the eldar blue squad and then moving the sentinal to the back of the outpost, i then decided to move 1st squad to assist my command squad. For me first ever shooting phase for 40k i use 2nd squad to shoot at his red squad, hitting 8 of them but only wounding 3 which 2 of them make their armour save.
For my opponnents first turn he moves his red squad 6" towards my 2nd squad then he moves his blue squad to within 12" of my command squad and utterly wipes them out in his shooting round,
Well i thourght of getting some payback with me sentinal and 1st squad, so i move the sentinal round one side of the outpost while the 1st squad moves round the other side, trying to pull off a pincer move to try and wipe out his blue squad(with his commander), and so i unleash 20 lasgun bolts at him plus the sentinals heavy flamer, and you no what, all of me lasguns miss they were bloody useless but atleast me sentinal did better by killing 2 of his guys. Whilst 1st squad was being useless 2nd squad managed to take out another 2 guys out of his red squad .
Turn to for my opponnent was much like the first, he moves his red squad towards me 2nd squad then he wipes out me 1st squad in his shooting phase.
With the arrival third turn i continue to wittle down his red squad with my second squad, then with great suprise my sentinal manages to wipe out all but 2 and his commander of his blue squad which turn tale and flee.
Turn 3 for the eldar begins with his commander and whats left of blue squad failing to rally and continues to flee.
His red squad however moves to within 4" of my 2nd squad after failing a difficult terrain test.
For the 4th turn i manage to charge 2nd squad into his red squad but i only manage to kill one of his guys, while the blue squad flees of the board his red squad manages to kill 2 of my guys i cc but all is not lost as at the end of my fifth turn the sentinal charges into the fray, kill 2 of the eldar whilst 2nd squad actualy manages to slaughter the rest of his red squad.

So at the end of a close game, i'm left with my mind racing of all that had went on and thankfull that in my mind the sentinal actually saved me the game.
I can still see it stomping around giving burning retribution to the enamies of mankind whilst the surviver of a depleted squad cheer in the background, cool
Another victory for the Emperium.
