So I'm building a Tyranids army and am painting a Hive Tyrant. Somewhere in the process of his being built and painted I lost his head, so here's my question. Is there any remotely possible fluff reason why a Hive Tyrant could function without it's head? If not I'll just get another but any amount of money I can save would be awesome

buy a fex...not sure if it would fit but the sprue comes with like 6 different heads.
And yes you could use the fluff to say it has regenerate (just its head??)...although the model itself cant have that biomorph.

well until you get the head figured out, you could say that due to its super psychic powers its head is just invisible........ OR glue a gijoe head on there and start rocking man!

That's probably what I'm gonna do. I'm building a 2500pt Nidzilla list and I like the Tyrant heads better than the fex heads. It just so happens I have a friend who likes the fex heads better than the Tyrant heads. So I'm probably gonna by a fex, he's gonna buy a Tyrant and we'll swap heads.

Unfortunately no bone sword on this one, Venom Cannon and Scything Talons

Tyranids come with multiple sets of all their organs. This one just so happens to exist without the head, it's cognitive synapse exists in say, it's elbow. Just make sure to model the damage.

I would have to see your bits box before I gave advice, but if you have any of the old 3rd edition scything talons, you could use the part right before the blade and sculpt feeder tendrils. It looks cool.

Okay I DO know what G.I. Joe is. I had several of the tanks from the show anyways in my defence he typed gijoe so i was reading it as one word now had he seperated the "gi" from the "joe" I would have understood what he was talking about.

UPDATE: So I decided to go with a combination of blindidiotgod's suggestion and the various fex suggestions. I took a standard fex head and cut of the front part leaving the lower jaw intact. I also cut out the tongue and scarred up the edge where I cut the head so it looks kinda like it was blown off awhile ago and has "seen" some battles since. Sorry no pictures on account of my camera being dead and there not being a single AAA battery in the house
