With my Witchhunters about done and my Tau being lined up for a world's-easiest-painting-method production line, my thoughts are now ranging ahead to what will be my third (and probably final) 40k army.

In game terms I'm after a low model count army that can be competetive in a tournament.
In looks/fluff terms I'm looking for something that will provide some reasonable conversion opportunities and a paint scheme I can go to town on (note, after 3000pts of green Witchhunters and 3000pts of brown/tan Tau anything involving these colours is right out... ).

Can anybody give me some ideas?

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Elder? You can use a huge variety of colours and you can make competetive armies.
You could also make a Space Marine army, plenty of low model count armies and a large variety of colour schemes to work with, not to mention a brand new codex!

nidzilla...what could be cooler to convert than 8 MCs or easier to paint in terms of numbers?

@Lukus - Sorry, no Nids! (We've got one guy in our gaming group already who has 12,000 pts of Nids - I'm sick of seeing the things... )

@Xav - How competetive are deathwing? I know they're one of the better DA builds but I've never played them.

@MinMax - I thought about Daemons but I want to do some conversions and am not sure if my GS ability would do them justice. CSM could be a thought, though...

My vote is for a all biker list. I would say either White scars or Orks.

These lists aren't push over’s have a lower model count and offer tons of conversion and painting options. They can be fun to play as well.
