I find that turning on Windows media player slows my computer to a CRAWL. Anyone know a better program for playing music files?
(No buying an Apple is NOT an option, thank you.)

Winamp for music.
VLC for video.
You can google either. Both are free.

k-lite codec pack. It has a media played built into it and it will play EVERYTHING I have found so far. Really like it.

Second the k-lite codec pack.
Comes with Media Player Classic that will play EVERYTHING I've thrown at it. H.264, Mp4, 3gp, etc. Real Media streaming stuff and all.

Agreed, I don't have an IPod so I don't need ITunes.

Ah yes, I love VLC. Not alot of gubbins that comes along with it and slows down your machine. Works well.

been said many times already but...
VLC for most video media (especially AVI), windows media player classic (google it) for wmv as it has better skipping and processing.
Winamp for audio though itunes has its place as well. Amarok is my normal choice but that is not available on windows yet.

Wow, I can have my WMP playing and play Dungeon Runners at the same time and it runs fine, and it's an underpowered piece of crap. Maybe you need some sort of software to scan you computer for registry errors and such, they can really drive performance down.

Crap Cleaner works wonders on reg errors. I try to run it weekly and it makes a world of difference when I forget to.
