Friendly game last night.
List 1: rather a bit too jazz-inspired for my tastes:
two large mobs of boyz, one mob of 'ard boyz, five lootas, ten burnas, three killa kans, zogwort, a big mek/kff, and ten kommandos.
List 2: foot-slooging meks with nasty surprises:
three large boyz mobs, six killa kans, 1 deff dread, ten kommands+snikrot, four deff koptas, mad doc grotsnik, big mek/kff
Battle: seize ground--5 objectives; pitched battle deployment
The board had lots of area terrain and buildings. The jazz-inspired list went first. He deployed his forces int he middle of the table and put his burns on his left flank with the intent of possibly contesting two objectives that were in area terrain. I deployed with a weighted left flank.
Turn 1
player 1 moved forward. The lootas hiding in the third floor of a building destroyed two killa kans with some amazing shooting. Zogwort rolled his psych. power and teleported safe to my left flank. Uh oh, zogwort and 30 boyz and 20 'ard boyz were coming straight at Mad Doc Grotsnik and his 30 boyz.
player 2 moved forward. The two greens tides approached each other like an implacable force brooding over an inscrutable intention. Big shootas killed two lootas in the building and the remaining gobshites decided to bugger off. They roll a 12 and fleet all the way to the pizza place next door.
Turn 2
Oh its on!
Player 1. His kommandos do not arrive. Zogwort and 30 boyz move through a ruin. the 'Ard boyz on move up alongside. Shooting is inconsequential. The burnas are left out in the cold and have started snuffing their fuel. The major assault takes place: zogwort+30 guys and 20 'ard boyz assault my mob of 30 boyz with grotsnik and a deff dread. zogwort choose not to attempt to squig grotsnik--an mistake it would seem--but did get +1 attack from his pyschic power! When the dust from dice rolling settles the deff dread is wrecked and the value of Mad Doc Grotsnik's FNP is clear to all. I win the first round of combat! (zogwort and his boys assaulted through a ruin so the assault initiative order was 'ard boyz, my mob, zogwort's mob)
Player 2. Snikrot and his boyzs arrive and the burnas die with a whimper. Shooting is basically inconsequential. One of my kans joins the zogwort/grotsnik assault. The second round of that mess is a push--9 casualties per side. One of my mobz is in control of two objectives. Another mob of mine is control of a third objective.
Turn 3
Player 1. No luck on his kommandos yet. Zogwort tries to squiq Grotsnik but fails. His killa kans, big mek, and 30 boyz assault three killa kans of mine. He kills two kans I kill one. He loses the zogwort/grotsnik assault. Zogwort dies and the three remaining 'ardboyz run away.
Player 2. My koptas arrive and shoot up the fleeing 'ard boyz. I bring 30 boyz into the mess in the middle of the table. it is now 2 kans, 30 boyz, 1 big mek vs. 1 kan, 30 bozy, 1 big mek. I lose this round. Good thing Grotsnik and his surviving fellas are hitting next turn!
Turn 4
Player 1. His kommandos finally come on and as luck would have it they come in behind the koptas and wipe them. He wins the assault in the middle but we're both down to a few boyz each.
Player 2. Grotsnik hits the middle assault. It goes my way and he's wiped. He concedes.
After Action
My opponent's list was a big higgidly-piggidly. The zogwort teleportation trick on turn 1 was cute but he'd of been better off to have teleported to the opposite board edge and supported the burnas. I love Grotsnik, especially once his mob gets into CC. I know people talk about kiting him around the board but I've never had problem with him getting stuck in.
