I am working on a Space Marine army that I want to construct fluff for and I'm not sure what I want the chapter to be a successor of. Paint scheme is dark blue with black highlights, gold trim, and dark green weapons. Tactics tend towards a more mechanized army. I am not too familiar with SM fluff as my main focus so far has been Orks. Chapter logo is a four pointed star, the center is white and the arms are light blue.

I listed my chapter as an 8th Founded Chapter, with the entire Chapter being almost wiped out after their homeworld was lost to chaos forces so all the records of my Chapters history were lost and the few suviving Space Marines did not pass on their knowledge as they did not want others to know their world turned to chaos or it would risk themselves being deemed chaotic.

The Chapter has since managed to rebuild itself to a good strength, but their homeworld with all its records have been lost forever

Fluffwise I mentioned that it is believed that they are successors to the soulsu Swords, I mentioned a hint of a successor just to get a bit of extra feel for where they came from without actually saying "yes they came from here"

Look through the codex and find Chapter schemes that list them as having many dealings with Orks. Then say that "your" chapter is a successor to them and share the hatred of Orks passed down through the Chapter Masters and Sergeants who originally came from the successor chapter.

Sorry first post wasn't very clear. A friend of mine that got out of the game has gifted me a good sized SM army. Up until now I have just played as Orks and their codex/fluff is all I am familiar with. I will be getting the SM codex soon.

What style do you want?
Mechanised generally gets taken as Ultramarines or Imperial Fists successors.
Biker mechanised would be White Scars.
Loads of Flamers could be Salamanders.

you could have a ork killing chapter, there homeworld was overrun by an ork waaaagh, and the remander of the chapter is in search of a warboss who captured there chapter master, and the 1st company captin is sitting in for him as they look for him.

A heavily-mechanized chapter suggests one that has a longer history (more time to build up vehicles). Depending on how you plan to use these vehicles during the game, your marines may be anything from Patton-esque glory hogs in faster tanks to a successor to the White Fangs and their motorcycle prowess, to a descendant of the Imperial Fists that smashes aside baracades with powerful armor.
