Forever alone

Five months till we see the next instalment in this epic series. Let's stum up everything confirmed about the game.

-Chris Redfield is the main character. Can't miss this.
-You have an ally who can actually FIGHT! (Screw you Ashley)
-The main protagonist will be Albert Wesker.
-The viral agent will once again be Las Plagas, the parasites from RE4.
-Set in an African shanty town.
-Therefore, many enemies are black. That doesn't make it racist. IT'S AFRICA DAMMIT.
-Chainsaw Maniacs are back! Yay!
-Your ally can be a human player as well, online and off.

Whenever you hear news about this, post it here. I want to see them regenerators again!
I predict high sales and ratings. The graphics so far look amazing. The lighting is superb, and more realism in general has been added to the game, things like chainsaws no longer slicing cleanly through your neck, and your vision blurs when you pass into and out of deep shadows and bright sunlight. Nice touch.
Also, I noticed that there are a LOT more enemies. In the trailers, Chris is seen fighting hordes dozens-strong.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

If it plays like 4 and get's the atmo right, (which capcom usually does) than this will probably one of those 90%+ from every critic.
And I'm so glad that Wesker's back.

This game, along with God of War III (currently undated), is why I have not surrendered to the sweet oblivion of euthanasia yet. The joy of killing so many black enemies after killing so many brown enemies in RE4 is too much to resist.

I am going to play this game so much I'll have to wear a hood to bed. See images (artist's rendering) from my RE5 launch party below.

Heck yea. Fallout 3 all the way.

Also looking forward to RE5 as well. Resident evil series has always been a great series. There was actually a little controversy about the enemies all being Africans, but its really not a big deal...in my opinion at least.

You can see some of the enemies are white as well. Your ally, Sheva, is supposed to be black, but she looks more like a white person dipping in tea.

1) I love Fallout 3. One of the best games I've played this year.

2) But it ain't RE5. Different experiences, and I prefer the charms of RE4 (and hopefully 5) to those of Fallout 3.

3) Plenty of the enemies will be crackers. Just not in every scene.

4) Sheva *is* "black". She's African, and they come in all shapes, colors, and shades. Quite a few African women have her coloring. She continues the tradition of hottie, sophisticated, Bond-like RE girls (Ada). I'm down.

5) RE5 also has co-op, so I'm down with that as well.

How is discussing a black person (not in a negative way) racist?
Stuff you and you silly gif. You used it already.

I use it all the time to let you know stuff is racist (Pssst, I don't really care if it's racist or not)

I just don't see why people have to make such a big fuss. Considering they staged this in Africa, having a bunch of white people run around would make no sense whatsoever. They staged it in Africa and wanted to be authentic.

Even if that was minor necromancy, bringing back this thread is a good thing, as I have some major news for anyone who's interested. I just played the Japanese Co-op demo with my friend for hours and hours.

I have to say, it's one of the best games I've ever played. The rundown:

Resident Evil 5 plays nearly exactly like Resident Evil 4, but they've changed the Inventory system. Checking your inventory now takes place in real-time gameplay, and you can trade items with your partner if you're standing next to them (you can also request items if you're playing single player, to get anything you want from your AI teammate). You can now set items in your inventory to your D-Pad, to be able to instantly switch between weapons and healing items. Bad news: It seems like they've taken out the yellow herb HP increases from Resident Evil 4, but they could've just given you a full health bar for the demo. It's a possibility. Also, they've taken out the "briefcase" system, so you have one set inventory (with 9 slots, size doesn't matter anymore).

There is a system in place that's sort of reminiscent of Gears of War or Left 4 Dead. When one character runs out of health, they enter a "dying" state, in which they can walk around extremely slowly. The other player can stand next to the dying player and tap B to revive them, but if the dying character is attacked one more time, they die permanently (and when one character dies, or two characters enter dying mode, you lose). When you are standing next to your teammate and you use a healing item, both of you are healed. Also, to kind of reinforce the "weak character, strong character" feel that Resident Evil has always had, the puzzles are set up in such a way that Sheva is always the one that ends up in the difficult situations (strangely), and Chris acts as a support character, since Chris is always the one helping Sheva over obstactles and such. Chris also has a bit more of an advantage in knife comat, as he wields a machete.

For those of you that actually give a gak, not ALL of the zombies are black, and in fact, it's a pretty healthy mix of black and white zombies (as if it takes place in South Africa). In addition to the "Chainsaw Maniacs" (which look much, much cooler in Resident Evil 5), there are also gigantic axe-wielding executioners that look like something from Hellraiser. The demo only has two levels, so those are the only bosses that I really know about.

This is the best-looking game I've ever seen. Once you see it in motion, you'll know what I'm talking about. The amount of detail in everything is just ridiculous.

There was a problem that I always had with Resident Evil 4. The setting. I thought that Resident Evil 4's storyline and location was a black mark against the series. But Resident Evil 5 is just perfect. It just feels....right. I don't really know how to explain that. It's sort of reminiscient of Black Hawk Down, but not at all in a bad way. And the storyline, from what I've seen of sneak peeks and stuff so far, ties much more into the entire Resident Evil series.

I would suggest this game to anyone. It's definetly going to end up being one of the best games ever made (especially playing through in co-op; single player isn't nearly as fun). Though it's not exactly scary or disturbing in any way, it's INTENSE. It has some of the most intense moments I've ever experienced in a videogame, and I've only played the demo. Just think of the implications of that.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

I recently watched Black Hawk Down. To be honest, I don't see much differenence. The rioting mobs in BHD don't have tentacles, but that's about it

I played the demo too, Chrys summed it up pretty good. The setting is great and I can't wait to learn how the story will continue.

While this is technically true, the average African black woman is not that light, but that really isn't even the problem I've heard expressed on this point. The problem is the continuation of using mostly lighter skinned (or high yellow for those in the know) black women to put into the forfront. For example there was a show on not that long ago showing how over time the photos of Beyonce have showed her skin tone getting lighter since first becoming popular. Another is Vanessa Lewis from the Virtua Fighter series. She was the first black character in the series and originally looked like this:

and by the next game looked like this.

So when Capcom said they were going have an African partner and then revealed it to be Mila Kunis some people were let down, though not suprised.

They had a chance to actually put someone that black women (and men) could relate to more. It's like the old X-Play joke about positive black characters in video games and they only showed one guy and it lasted about 20 seconds.

Though to be more accurate on the problem we really should be looking at how Japanese developers portray black people.

I don't really care about the "color" issue.
