So a friend of mine was interested in playing dorfs as his 1st army. How is this?
He will be playing against my chaos a lot so I just thought of what would devestate my army. This a good all round build or no?

I have a feeling you have commited a sin with the above post and this thread may be repremanded ASAP by a MOD.

You may want to quickly edit your post and remove the stats , rules and points costs. All we need to see is the units and their sizes. Hurry before the mods or even worse GW legal notices!

Note: D+ can take over 12 hours of driving in Canada. It's no small task here.

So that you chaos will acctually reach his lines, and to give him more variety.

Turn 1 unit of thunderes into x-bows (extra range very handy)
Take a gyrocopter rather than the second organ gun.
Dump 2 more thunderers and take a unit of warriors or longbeards.
Dump a cannon and take 2 bolt throwers- they are more frightening.

The weapons on the Master Engineer seem needless to me. Ideally, you probably don't want him to be getting into CC. I'd save the points for something else.

Maybe consider a Grudge thrower instead of the third cannon.

May also be worth getting the thunderers shields, since, asides from the Hammerers, are your only other infantry.

The Hammerers probably don't need the Battle of Stoicism.


I can see this list as being devastating from the sheer volume of fire (assuming non-sucky rolling), but unless your friend would like to sit back and just shoot at people, I would imagine this list lacks a lot of zazz. Maybe it's just my personal taste on play-style, but this list is just too static.

He plays 40k IG and wanted something about the same.. This is all I could think of. He also likes dwarves.
Only reason why engineer has weapons is to charge stuff that threatens "the hill"

Outflanking

Swap out a cannon and unit of Thunderers for a unit of either Longbeards, Ironbreakers or warriors.

You May want to consider swapingout some runes for a Master rune of dimay/and or a master rune of challenge. Against low Ld armies that do not posess tons of immune to psychology troops these two runes should not be under estimated, and help overcome the speed weakness inherant to dwarves.

Also, this army will already pack 6 dispel dice. The 2 Runes of warding will probably not help much, as your opponent will likely just ignore that unit and work on nukeing your war machines. The points are better spent elsewhere (Such as on the Master Rune of spite). Besides, anyone who can force through enough power dice to worry you by now will probably not be all to worried about 2 more power dice that can only be used on one unit.

Lastly, do you really want your Master engineer in Close combat? If not, why buy a runic weapon? In my experiance, if your foe is that close, you have lost your artillery line.
