This is built up for a local GW conversion comp as something to aim at.

Original concept was to build an Aliens 2 type walker with one of the black reach Orks:

But kept working on it and eventually came up with this:

Work left to do is - add snotling on stilts to the base, add a snotling "rigger" swinging on a chain, add control leads to his head.

The concept was that he is pulling pulleys to actuate the arm movements and is cocking his head to fire the megablasta.

So - Defdread with 2 x ccw, heavy flamer and a blasta weapon (big shoota or mega blasta).

Only problems as I see it -

* Defdread is not supposed to be open topped

* Does it still count as a conversion? It's now more like a scratch build with some bits added

LOL

Thanks

Here's my son's entry (11YO) for the same comp... bionic boy!

Just about finished the dread - have done the base, fixed the limbs and added the brain connections - just need to add the final grot rigger hanging off.

Will post a pic up when it's done.

Cheers

OK - now finished the construction. Ready now to undercoat.

Base with snotling on stilts (very very small defdread )

Snotling/grot rigger:

And the pilot now with mechboy installed brain control!

Cheers

I like this alot, seeing tons of run of the mill Deffdreads gets a bit boring,so I love to see original builds like this.
Nice work.

It was a fun process to go through and build the dread...

Cheers.

Thanks guys,

Still got plenty of Eldar to finish before doing an orc army but might give killer cans a go at some point (I have the AoBR Orks to create the start of an army).

Cheers

Standing right behind you...

Do orks control dreadnaughts like that? i thought that with such little room inside their metal cans they wouldn't be able to fling their arms around and thus would be hard-wired into it much like Tau are with Battlesuits.

Hi !?

From the codex:

Painboyz have an important role to play in any warband that includes Deff Dreads. Dread pilots have to be interfaced with the crude circuitry of the Deff Dread itself.

So - they have to be interfaced (hence the conrol lines going to the helmet).

Personally, I wanted to model it slightly on the lines of being controled like Ripley's walker from aliens, and my fluff if I ever create a group of orks to play will be that the Mek and the Painboy got together to watch a 38,000 year old HDDVD (the HDDVD players will still be available in landfill for Millenia) of Aliens, and looted the idea of the controls for when they came across a carnifex.

Yea, that's hard wiring; like the Tau do it with their battlesuits as i said.

It said in this month's white dwarf as well that: 'Some Orks make the mistake that Deff Dreads mean power. All it really is is a life spent in a walking metal tin'
