I've been a fan of Battlefleet: Gothic for some time and I'm looking for an alternative game to it to possibly get into. I largely enjoy the BFG mechanics, but, am seeking something possibly a little more customizable. I'd like to stay in the realm of naval tabletop wargame, with a definate leaning towards sci-fi or steampunk. Can anyone suggest any games that would fit this desire? I'm specifically avoiding hex/tile based systems, just as a forewarning.

Babylon 5: A Call to Arms
It plays similar to BFG, but has more detail and variance between vessel classes.

I'm a HUGE BFG fan, but I've been read nothing but glowing reviews for Starmada: The Admiralty Edition .

I know the ship and fleet custimization rules are top notch, but how is the combat ?

Star Fleet Battles = Advanced Squad Leader in Space

I know a lot of Star Fleeters who ended up using Starmada or Full Thrust because SFB took to long to play

Nice full war campaign went with it, too.

Another vote for Full Thrust! Have used BFG fleets twice the size of normal BFG games and finished the game in an evening at the local club!

The One thing I liked about FT was the way it scaled well. You could play small games with 2 or 3 ships or huge games. The biggest game I ever played was at a convention.

It was the Humans vs Kra'vak 10 players with over 30,000 points worth of heavy metal floating through space.

I played FSE and so did another player, In one turn we launched a combined multi missle salvo in one turn that had 36 missles in it. The Kra'vak players were not happy campers !

I have an old Demo Box for Starfleet Battles from my LGS that was sitting on the shelf collecting dust. It was an awesome find and I was shocked it was still intact, even though I live where it was created.

LOVE Starfleet!

Have never heard of Full Thrust however...where would be the best place to get a hold on some rules?

While Ground Zero Games still manufactures the models for Full Thrust the rules are no longer in print.

They have been made available for FREE now from GZG HERE
