Okay, so I went and got myself a Pureblood model. I got home, opened it, put it together, was so hyped up about it I turned around and went back to buy a Warp Wolf.

I'm really loving the sculpts of these guys. PP seems to have a pretty good idea on how to please it's players. I picked up a copy of Primal to read. The rules seem very simple and easy to follow. I think I have it pretty much down, but only a play-test or two will decide.. I still need to pick up the Evolution book. From what I've been told, it's just a rule or two about calvary and shield? Anyone know for sure or not and the rest of the models not in primal.

So, this is what I have so far.
Pureblood Warp Wolf
Warp Wolf
Tharn Bloodtrackers (6)
Tharn Ravenger White Mane.

I'm looking at painting these guys first before I move on and buy more. I dont want to get backed up on having a full army that's not painted.. In a week or so, depending on how much painting gets done, I'm going to try and get the following..

Kromac (couldn't find him in any of the stores... otherwise would have bought him first)
Tharn Ravengers (4)
Tharn Shaman
Bloodtrackers (4 more)
Warp Wolf.

I looked over some other models that are probably in Evolution, and I kinda like the way the Gatormen posse look. I'm not sure what the rules for them are, but looking over other topics, people seem to recommend them over the Tharn Ravengers.. Anyone else have a say in it??

Last note, I'm going to start painting, and I'll post progress. Wish me luck guys.

I prefer the Tharn myself. Be sure to get the Shaman.

They're faster and harder to hit than the Gators, but the Gators hit harder and can survive more hits.

Tharn also have pathfinder and the ability to ignore forests for LOS.

Tharn have the added bonus of being in-faction models. This doesn't matter so much with Krueger, but you'll find that they can really benefit from the in-faction spells of other Warlocks.

The Whitemane model is out and you can use him, but if you want more information on him you'll have to wait until the next book is released next year. His card has everything you should need already on it.

At 500 points, I prefer to diversify the warbeasts and will only take one Woldwarden with Krueger. A Warpwolf is much better at taking down heavies and higher DEF models. Krueger and one Warden can handle a lot of infantry on their own.

Personally, I'd swap out a Woldwyrd for your Gorax, but that's just a playstyle preference.
Definitely get the Shifting Stones or a Sentry Stone. Stones and Mannikins are gold without Krueger, but with him they serve dual purpose as lightning rods.

What Lemartes is trying to say is, Gatormen are more durable than Ravagers and have 3 base attacks with an ability that gives them extra damage against damaged living models. Combine that with Krueger's Forked Lightning spell which can lightly damage multiple models, and you have a heck of a combo.

Ravagers are considered by some to be too fragile for their point cost. They also sometimes need help hitting enemy models. Other Circle warlocks have ways of circumventing these drawbacks. Krueger does too, but does it in such a way that doesn't favor the Ravagers. Ravagers work best when using guerilla tactics, and Krueger is much more direct. Also, Krueger's support spells affect "friendly model/unit"s, not "friendly Circle model/unit". So you're not missing anything if you take Minions instead of a faction unit with him. All this means Gatormen are a better fit for Krueger than Ravagers are. With other Circle warlocks (Kromac and Morvahna in particular), Ravagers are the superior choice.

The Tharn Ravager White Mane's rules were in September's No Quarter magazine and will also be in the upcoming Metamorphosis. He's basically a MAT 8 Ravager Solo that can get up to three Heart Tokens instead of just one and spends them the same way as other Ravagers except he can also spend one to Leap in the same manner as the Totem Hunter. He also has an ability where whenever Ravagers have LOS to the White Mane charging and destroying an enemy model, those Ravagers get an additional die on melee damage rolls for one turn. Personally, I think he's good enough on his own to take without Ravagers, but I haven't gotten any game time with mine yet.

I like your warbeast selection. The Gorax/Warpwolf combo is excellent at taking out hard targets, and a MAT 8 Trampling Warpwolf is a nice option to have. Woldwardens pumping out Undergrowth and/or Forked Lightning every turn are always good.

Swamp Gobbers are good support for minimal points investment. Shifting Stones are a decent support unit and you can bounce Forked Lightning off of them, so they're a good choice too. The Lord of the Feast is a decent beatstick solo and causes Terror. Don't rely on him getting The Offering every game, but do rely on your opponent trying to kill him ASAP.

One note on Lightning Tendrils: It works on models/units. With it, a Warpwolf has a 13.5" threat range. A White Mane would be able to potentially kill more models in a turn. A LotF will be more likely to get The Offering. Don't be afraid to throw this spell around.

I was going to post in this thread, but apparently I already did?

Anyway, since I'm here, I'll chime in with with some brief advice. Ravagers are better with Kromac than Gatormen are. The reason is Kromac's upkeeps spell, Brutality, may only target friendly Circle models/units. And yes, Brutality is that damn good. But even if you could cast it on Gatormen, Ravagers still might win out because they have the Shaman's mini-feat which interacts beautifully with Brutality.

Oh, and Ravagers are Fearless all of the time, not just some of the time like Gatormen. Very useful when Kromac beasts out and his CMD drops to 3.

Consult Battle College for more information!

As far as the new rules in Evolution are concerned, I believe it consists of Cavalry, Shields, Weapon Crews, Standard Bearers, and Unit Attachments. Obviously, you're only concerned with UAs, and basically all you need to know is a unit may only have one UA, and the UA takes the Unit Leader rule from the unit's original unit leader. Should the new unit leader die, the original unit leader gets the rule back. Everything else is common sense.

Me too?

Umm ... what oomie said.

Check out Battle College for some good basic information on all of the models and a few rudimentary tactics.

For the specific models you listed, the only special rule that you need to be aware of is that while the Tharn Shaman is alive, the normal leader of the unit does not act as the leader.

Eventually, there are a handful of rules that you'll need to at least memorize from a borrowed copy of Evolution if you don't buy the book. The cards reference these rules, but do not include the actual text.

Primarily,
Unit Standards - basically, grant Fearless and if the standard dies someone within 1" can pick it up.

Cavalry/Light Cavalry - special charge stuff and post combat bonus movement, plus a couple other rules

While you can definitely survive without it, I would recommend getting Evolution. Besides the new rules, it has a lot of background info on the models and factions, as well as providing you with a reference for what your opponent might bring against you. It also has much of the errata that was applied to the original Primal rules. This is very useful to have on hand.

All of the models you list are great. The Tharn are a lot of fun, and Kromac is a great Warlock.
The Tharn White Mane is actually from the not-yet-released 3rd book, Metamorphosis. I have not picked him up yet, but I hear only good things about him.

Well I already own a White Mane. His basic rules are that of the Ravengers, just he gives them the ability to charge or run without an order if he destroys a living model with a charge attack.

He gets SPD+5 when charging a living model, and +2 for charge attack rolls with reach. He seems to focus on warbeasts unless he has all three heart tokens on him. Then he would be good against the infantry. He's also fearless, so I think that probable helps too.

I just prefer the wolves because I love lycans. Kromac fits into that alot also. I will be sure to pick up Evolution, and I cant wait to look at all the other models.

The White Mane, like Ravagers, can spend those tokens as he gains them. So he can charge, kill a guy, gain a heart token, spend the heart token to attack again, kill another guy, gain another heart token, and so on until all enemy models in his melee range are dead or he fails to kill one. It's when he has his three heart tokens that he might actually stand a chance at killing a warbeast, or better yet, a warlock.

That what makes him good with Kromac. Brutality makes him MAT 10 and Berserk allows you to hang on to those heart tokens for warbeast/warlock killing next turn. Or you could charge multi-wound infantry and spend the tokens as you gain them to boost damage rolls.

Oh, ok. I thought it was more like a "spend them after you get them" type thing. I didn't know he could use one he gained in the same activation. Thanks oominestompa, I'll be able to use him better now.
